Tipping for Delivery

We're having a bunch of furniture/appliances delivered over the next couple weeks. How much should you tip the delivery guys? Is it a percentage of the total bill or what?

Re: Tipping for Delivery

  • For furniture delivery, we've done it depending on how many guys are there and how difficult/heavy the objects are rather than % of bill.

ETA: As well as courtesy (taking care with the furniture) and being on time or if not, giving reasons as to why not.

  • Sh*t, I've never tipped furniture/appliance delivery guys. Should I be doing this?

  • We also offer them drinks (water, soda, juice) and use of the restrooms. =)  This plays right into DH's love of making small talk and talking to EVERYONE.
  • I've also never tipped them. Oopsies. But I do offer drinks or snacks and just try to stay the hell out of their way.

I never have either. I assumed that were paid a decent hourly rate.

  • I never tip them either - I assumed they were paid a decent hourly rate for it with how much it usually costs.  I do offer them a drink though.

  • I've also never tipped.  I do offer them a bottle of water though.
  • I want to say we gave each guy $15 (and water) when we had our dresser/armoire delivered. They are oversized and they had to attach a giant mirror to my dresser. And it was hotter than hell outside.
