Sherlock, we greatly underestimated you!

V let him outside to hang out on the balcony. We noticed that he had been out there for a while so we went to check up on him. V found him in a serious hunting pose.

We saw something small dart across the deck and Sherlock pounce on it. He caught a mouse!

image

(He did actually catch it, I swear. I just was a split second late with my camera and caught him trying to play with it.)

The good news is, Sherlock does have some hunting instincts! The bad news is, we apparently have mice. Fortunately we've never encountered them in the house, yet. Sigh.

But, what now? Do we have to call someone to check out the balcony for mice? Or just let Sherlock do his thing?

    Yay Sherlock!

I wouldn't worry too much about the mice.  If you notice them in the house, maybe worry then, but for now, I'd say just let Sir Sherlock take care of them.

Chloe and Meka have both caught mice outside our house and the only time we had one (dead, thanks Chloe) in the house was when we had exposed dirt during the back room reno.

Also, tell V that socks and sandals is not the best look, k?  Stick out tongue

  • It looks like Sherlock has things under control!  I'm not an expert on mice, but I think if you don't have any inside then it probably isn't a problem.  I guess just make sure there aren't any holes or ways for them to get inside.  Someone else might have more experience or better advice.  I just couldn't resist commenting on a cute post about Sherlock, he is adorable!

  • Bravo Sir Sherlock! That's a big step up from the fly he caught at our place!

Way to go Sherlock! Oh no socks and sandals, I just had a rant about that this weekend at the park. I just don't get it.

  • I think it's normal for them to be outside on the balcony. It was probably just running by when Sherlock got it.

Check for mouse droppings in the house, and if you don't find any, they probably aren't inside. Just make sure to keep your door closed so they don't get in.

  • To be fair, he was wearing socks in the house and had run out onto the balcony to see what was going on... Those slippers don't go beyond the balcony though, lol.

  • Sherlock the Mighty Hunter!  Haha.  Cheddar is too lazy to catch anything.

  • Hehe in the house is one thing. I was at a design museum this weekend, then the movies and lastly a park. It seemed like everywhere I went were people with socks and sandels. When it is 100 degrees outside here in Georgia it makes me wonder aren't your feet roasting.

  • Yay Sherlock!

If he continues to catch mice just make sure he's up to date on all his vaccinations and worming, especially since you're pregnant.

  • Yay for Sherlock!

When the cats lived with me at my Dad's house, they catch 2 mice...in the house!  I ended up being able to help the mice out and get them outside.  We had huge fields on both sides of our house so, unfortunately, mice were pretty common.

I'm tempted to let the cats out on our back porch once we move, but I'm too scared they will get out of the fenced yard.

  • Good job, Sherlock!  As long as you haven't seen signs of them in the house I think you are ok.  All Rex catches are crickets, which he eats, then pukes.  He's awesome.
