Beauty Prep

I am doing trial runs for wedding related activites.

I have a groupon for a *gulp* Brazilian wax.  When's the best time to do this?

I also want to give a spray tan a shot.  But one of those places where someone sprays it on you, not a mystic tan booth.    Any recommendations where I should go for this?

Engagement photos were rescheduled until 7/29 due to FI needing his appendix removed the day they were previously set for. Fun fun.

  • I don't know anything about spray tanning, but for the wax, I'd do it 2-3 days before the big event because you could be red and a little sore. Not everyone is, but better safe than sorry.
  • All I know about waxing is that you're absolutely NOT supposed to do it around your period, the end.

Is this a trial wax before the big day?

This is a good tip, but you may not have any control over when darling AF shows up.  I always take some advil or aleve about 30 minutes before my appointment.  It takes the edge off a smidge.  But it's really not that bad.  Yes, it will hurt, but temporarily.  The area will be sensitive for at least a day - so keep FI away!  IMO the worst of all is when the hair starts to grow back...so itchy.  If that's an issue for you, Sally Beauty Supply (and I'm sure other places) sell a numbing cream to help.  Good luck!

  • For spray tanning, try Pileggi salon in Washington square. I had a great one there.

I always tell them to barely touch my hands (really light spray only once) and face.

    Good luck!

  • I've been getting Brazillian waxes for 3+ years now.  The week before your period is when your supposed to be the most sensitive to pain, which is why they say to hold off on getting waxed.  Taking a Motrin about 30-45 min before your appt can help with some pain, but still expect to feel a little sensitive (not sore) for the rest of the day.  The first time getting it done hurts like crazy, but it gets alot better! I don't experiance any discomfort with regrowth (the hair grows back finer), but I guess everyone is different.  A loofah will help prevent any ingrown hairs.
