Something I don't usually tip for...didn't know it was common practice and never really took it up after finding out is tipping housekeeping in hotels.
Do you tip for this?
What's one thing you do or don't tip for that you think might be against the norm?
Re: s/o Tipping
I usually don't tip housekeeping in hotels either. If we stay at a B&B I do. I am not sure why I see it as different.
Do you tip at places like Moe's or Coldstone where they have a tip jar at the counter? I don't.
I don't tip at places like Starbuck's or Coldstone's either...DH does if he pays with cash which is rare.
If I pay with cash (which is rare), I drop the change in the tip jar. Otherwise, I don't.
My Ovulation Chart
I'm a really good tipper for people who make server's wages. If you make a full wage and do your job, I don't tip. If you go above and beyond and do a great job or if it's somewhere I go regularly and have a friendly relationship, I will tip (or tip higher if I would've tipped anyway).
I don't usually tip at somewhere like starbucks (would you tip at mcdonalds? Is it drastically different?).. i don't tip housekeeping unless it's a really fancy place and they make like towel swans or something (and let's face it, I don't stay at those places).. I rarely tip for pizza delivery.
I know that some ppl who work/worked in the service industry see this as bitchy/rude, but it kind of gets under my skin that people think just because they look the recipient of their efforts in the face that they should get a bonus. You did your job for your agreed-upon salary and drove my pizza to my house. That's your job. No one whose relatives have cancer slips me a ten-spot because I did a great experiment. The premise just irks me.
ETA: I guess if they get paid the same, I can see why you feel this way Jenhap. I guess I just see it as an extra service that I pay a little extra for.
We tip food delivery guys a couple of bucks, not the same as what we would pay a server. DH believes the same as jenhappy on this one.
I don't tip at any non-restaurant food place other than Starbucks. I typically have a ton of gift cards to there because people know I'm a major addict, so I rarely have to pay out of pocket. Therefore, if the barista is friendly and/or quick and/or funny, I tip because I believe in encouraging nonsnootiness in baristas
We always tip when we have food delivered, I never thought not to.
Do you guys tip at places like Sweet Tomatoes where you get your own food, but they come clear your dishes/table?
The last B&B we stayed out had an actual housekeeper that was not the owner. I am not sure if this is the norm.
I always tip for food delivery as well. I believe they have to pay for their own gas and not to mention the wear and tear on their car. I doubt minimum wage covers these expenses. It seems like they would count on there tips to earn a decent income.
If I have cash I tip at Sweet Tomatoes.
