Expensive??? OMG! You can't pay for that stuff! I was just about to order 9 skeins of yarn for some really, really cute thigh-high socks that I saw in Ann Budd's new "Sock Knitting Master Class" book and holy-schmoly! The Classic Elite yarn was $20 a skein! Seriously! Hm...I'm going to have to figure out how to pay for that....
Re: Why is sock yarn so
Ugh, I don't know. Knitpicks has some nice inexpensive (well, for sock yarn!) options, though. I was wondering why the heck you'd need 9 skeins for even really long socks, but, duh- multiple colors. I'd either plan for knitting a lot of other projects with the leftovers, or look for a self striping option that you like! LOL
GL!
Ooooh...I didn't think about Knitpicks. I've never tried their yarn but have heard good things about it. I'll have to check it out. Thanks!
(And yes, 9 skeins=multiple colors)
Have you checked Hyena Cart? I'm sure a seller would custom dye some for you.
I've ordered yarn from Shasta Daisy Knits and I believe for solid colors her prices are somewhere in the ballpark of $8 for 2oz and $16 for 4oz.
Do you have a Michael's near you? they actually have some nice sock yarn, that I think is $5 a skein. I'm not sure what colors they have, though.
For the record, I'm a bit of a yarn snob, and I buy expensive sock yarn, so I wouldn't suggest it if it wasn't really a nice feeling yarn.
