AW: Cloth Diaper
DH and I are planning to cloth diaper our little one, who is due to arrive in 98 (eek!) days. For some reason I decided that making my own wouldn't be too difficult, even though Arline (my machine) and I haven't been seeing eye-to-eye on my last several sewing attempts.
The diaper is all right. I made a newborn fitted. I wouldn't call it a failure (I will still put it on my son), but it's definitely not a success. I ended up not even putting hook and loop tape on it because of how poorly I thought it was turning out.
I really want a snap press, but DH would like to see me get a little better before he buys me one.

This was my first time sewing with knit fabric and elastic. I think those were two of the factors leading to a less-than-brilliant attempt.

Not bad at all- I bet you learned some things that will make your second attempt even better, and soon you'll have it all down!
You are correct. Attempt #2 will involve a woven fabric. Trying to manage stretchy knit fabric while working with elastic was kind of a nightmare.
It cracks me up how supportive and encouraging DH is w/ this endeavor. We've been trying to come up w/ alternative ways for me to bring in money w/o returning to my job after maternity leave. I think he's secretly hoping that cloth diaper sewing is my secret hidden talent.
I love the frog fabric - and trust me, way better than I can do - I can barely sew straight.

Listen, it is incredibly cute, and a great idea. It does not matter if this was less than perfect, because you can try again- practice makes perfect.
