I've been scrapbooking for 10 years now, and while I love it, the past few years I've had less and less time. So, I'm looking into digital scrapbooking as a way to keep doing it to some extent, but saving some time in the process.
What I'm looking to do is create layouts that I'm able to print (doesn't matter what size, really. I usually scrap to 8.5x11 sheets of paper, but 12x12 is fine by me, too). I don't have a good enough printer to be able to print them at home, so I also need to find a service to print. Is Shutterfly good for this?
What software (or online service?) do you use to make the pages? I just bought Photoshop Elements, but I really have no idea how to use it yet. I'm pretty computer savvy, but I'm not picking it up quickly at all, so any help is appreciated!
Thanks!
Re: Digital scrapbooking?
Digital scrapbooking is on my I want to try list! But I havent really got around to it yet. However I have signed up for emails from scrapgirls.com. They have a freebie every day, and you can also buy embellishments etc. The also have various online classes, I have know idea what they are like though. They also have a CD which is described as:
Want to start making digital layouts in 90 minutes or less? In Scrapbook Software Secrets Revealed for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements, you'll learn how to make scrapbooking layouts, edit photos, and make your own supplies. The concepts are taught in short, one-topic, easy-to-use movies. Comes with approximately 30 movies, an eBook, and a lovely digital scrapbooking kit.
Which is $30. Again I have no idea what it is like but I was thinking of one day getting it for photoshop as I have that. But like you havent used it much! One day I will sit down and play more.... but for now Im trying to organize and make baby stuff! - but I think I will want to scrapbook important things in his life eventually!
They have forums etc too, I havent looked into it really though. Anyway.... maybe that could be somewhere to look for more advice and help!
Happy Scrapbooking
There is also a free beginner class and the entire month is dedicated to beginners at jessicasprague.com
There is really a lot of stuff out there and it is so much fun! My advice would be to spend a little time getting to know Elements and you will be off and running. You will be able to do so much more than with the other programs and will have excellent output quality. Set your files to 300 dpi for best results. Any good digi scrap supplies you buy will be at 300 dpi too.
For printing, I print 12x12 pages and love simplyscrapping.com They do a quality job and are really friendly. Enjoy! PM me if you need any help!
Thanks for the help!
Thanks for this! It's actually the sort of intro to Elements that I've been looking for. It really walks you through opening multiple files and combining them using layers.
I'm assuming you mean scrappingsimply.com? Their prices are way better than Shutterfly, and I'm glad to know their quality is still good!
ah, sorry about that. I always mix it up! Yes, the quality is very good. And they are into making sure you get something that looks good. If it doesn't look like it will print well, they've been known to call or send you a message to make sure.
