Tell me about Park Slope?

I know there have been some great posts in the past about moving to Park Slope and everything you should know - but of course they are lost to the nest...I'm hoping some of you PS experts might be willing to share your ideas again.

Our lease is up at the end of September and even though I adore our UWS neighborhood, I think that based on a change in our financial situation and our desperate need for a 2 br (we've been in a 1br with the baby for the past year and it has gotten very small very fast) we need to explore other areas. I'd like to go explore Park Slope this weekend, can you give me any advice on areas to live, "main" areas to check out and explore, etc?

A little bit of background - we'll have a 1 yr old when we move, I'm (mostly) home during the day, what we love about our current area is access to Central Park and Riverside Park and a little more residential/family friendly feel but with easy access to everything, DH will commute to midtown east everyday and I'll commute to school on the UES a couple of days/week.

I really appreciate your insights!

Re: Tell me about Park Slope?

  • We love it here!  Its a great place for families, there are playgrounds and parks everywhere.  We lived on the UWS before, and This has been a pretty easy transition.  One word of caution, community brings noise.  It is important to check out the block carefully, there are some loud areas.  Hospitals and firestations are not quiet, and old buildings don't always have great windows.
