Has anyone registered their phone number with the National Do Not Call Registry?

Re: National Do Not Call List

  • I did years ago, and I have had to report a few violators.

  • I got a call a few minutes ago, and I was trying to explain to the lady that she had the wrong number.  DH kept telling me just to hang up.  When I do hang up, he explains that supposedly there is some scam going on where they charge you $2,000-something for every minute you're on the phone.  So now I'm all paranoid and looking into adding our numbers to the list.

You can google the number and see if it's a scam and add your report.  Once I had the ppl call back 3 times and continued to get more rude each time.  I filed a police report, but nothing came of it.  However, it's on file now if they are eventually caught.

  • I just re-registered a few months ago. I'm not sure if numbers expire or something, but I was starting to get a few phone calls and after registering again, the calls stopped.
  • We did our home number a few months ago, but not our cells. I can't believe it took us so long, it helped a lot.

All of our numbers have been on it since the law went into effect. Like one of the PP's, I've had to report some violators lately.

  • I just registered my government phone a few weeks ago because it was a recycled number that got calls like crazy, and the calls have definitely stopped.  I also was getting a lot of spam texts that have stopped too.

Once you're on it, you can tell them you're on the list and they are supposed to hang up.  I don't really see how that scam could be possible though if you aren't agreeing to any charges.

  • I had done it to my home phone and cell phone in college. Last week or the week before we were getting all sorts of phone calls on our home phone so I registered that number as well as our cell numbers and the calls have stopped. Thank goodness!

  • Yes, we have our phone numbers on it.

Sadly, I get random texts now from companies. There may eventually be, years down the road, a do not text website. lol

At work we were getting add ons to our ATT bill. I googled/spoke to ATT and found out a new scam is to call you, randomly talk about something else, and basically trick you into agreeing to have something (usually "advertising") billed through third party billing on your line. It's insanity. And the phone companies are legally obligated to put the charges on your bill unless you've blocked it.

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • My cell phone carrier added me since I was getting all kinds of sales call on my cell phone.  The H used to get all kinds of wrong numbers on his work cell phone.
  • I also tell whoever is calling to put me on their company do not call list. You can also ask for them to mail you a printed copy of their do not call list policy and if they don't they can be fined. After the first time I tell them to add me to their do not call list, I start threatening to sue. Usually shuts them up.

Back on topic, I have registered on the national list just in case. Just remember that you have to give 30 days (or so) from the time you register for you to be able to report violations.

What cell provider do you use?  My gov phone is AT&T and that's the only one I've had problems with the spam texts.  You can go to this page (http://mymessages.wireless.att.com/) on the AT&T site to edit your text message settings.  Apparently spam can be sent to yourphonenumber@att.com, or something like that, and they come as spam texts, so this site blocks it.  Also, sometimes just texting "STOP" as a reply text helps.

Other providers might have similar things, but I've only had the problem with this phone to look into it.  My other phones are Verizon and Sprint and I don't get spam texts on either.
