So.. apparently I am now gluten free.
My doctor advised me to try out a gluten free diet to see if it can cure me of my anxiety issues (in lieu of meds). She swears that I'll be able to tell a difference in a couple days.
WTF can I eat for lunch? I am already pissed!
Re: So.. apparently I am now gluten free.
Thumbs up! Anxiety was one of my worst symptoms pre-diagnosis. I'm amazed that your doctor advised this - that's a really, really progressive approach. She's a keeper!!
You can eat gluten free bread (Udi's is the best), rice products, corn tortillas, potato/sweet potato... I know it seems daunting at first, but there's PLENTY you can eat! GL - I hope you notice a huge difference!
ETA: Also, be sure to read up on gluten free eating. Gluten is in things you might not think of, like soy sauce, Rice Krispies (there's now a GF variety too though!), malt flavoring... the problem is that "gluten" doesn't have to be labeled. Wheat has to be, as it's a top 8 allergen, but not the other sources of gluten. Here's a quick list: http://www.celiac.com/articles/182/1/Unsafe-Gluten-Free-Food-List-Unsafe-Ingredients/Page1.html
Bummer.
See the link I just posted above!
I've had a hunch that gluten might be the source of some of DH's issues (anxiety, otherwise unexplained stomach issues). I'm close to getting him to agree to go gluten free for a week to observe the differences.
Thanks for that link, julie!
We eat gluten free at home, I don't at work. I often think about cutting it completely to see what it does for me. It has made a huge difference in Peyton healthwise and Berkeley with some previous constipation issues we had.
I figure, it can't hurt. It has to be one of the healthiest diets out there.
Actually, this is a common misconception.
There's still PLENTY of gluten free junk food out there, and more being manufactured all the time. I know you know this, just putting it out there for anyone who may believe that gluten free automatically = healthy.
That's true, Julie. We don't buy much of the pre-made GF food (that stuff is $$ anyway!) We load the girls with veggies and fruit and meat (not me, I don't do much meat).
The one thing we do cave on though is mexican. I blame it in DH eating it so much growing up. We will make Mexican since it can easily be GF
Your doctor sounds awesome. May I ask what her name is?
