Has anyone driven to KC lately???

I am heading to KC this weekend, trying to figure out how long it is going to take to get there with all the back roads due to flooding.

Re: Has anyone driven to KC lately???

  • We have been to KC twice in the last 2 weeks. DHs route:

I-29 South to HWY 34 ( Glenwood Exit). 34 East to 71 South. 71 South to I-29 at St. Joseph

It takes about 30-45 mins longer (depending on traffic) than if you just took 1-29 South the whole way.

Plus traffic is pretty light on it. We have been on it 4 times in the past 2 weeks and its light traffic nearly the whole way each time

Not much to look at, but thats any part of NE/IA/MO if you ask me.

We were up there over the 4th for my sisters wedding and the route above was taken by half of our family, the other half of us took HWY 75 into Kansas, then got on HWY 136 (?  I think) just past Sabatha, KS which takes you through Hiawatha, KS and then into St Joe where we got back on I-29.

I think both routes took about 4 hours.  My mom took Carla's route, and went down on Thursday morning, and said there was absolutely no traffic at all.  My dad took the 75 route Friday morning and said the same thing...we took the 75 route late Friday and we hit traffic as soon as we got on to 136 because of some construction there plus I'm sure that late in the day we hit all the Long weekend traffic as well.

  • We went a different route -- however, it was about 45 minutes longer getting back on I-29 at Rockport.  So, it sounds like many of the routes are about the same length.

  • What part of Kc are you going to? If you'll be on the ks side I'd say take 75 south all the way to Topeka then take I-70 into Kansas city. If you're going to the MO side this will work or the above routes will work too. Takes about 4 hours to go through Topeka.

  • We went a couple of weekends ago. We took 75 south into Kansas to 136 and took that east to I-29 in St Joe. Took maybe 3.5 hours or so? Hard to say exactly b/c we stopped in St Joe for Dunkin Donuts. :)

If you went through Brownville I am pretty sure that route is closed... or it was.
