O.M.G. my SIL!

My SIL is very young (19), so her parenting methods are... um... different to say the least.  Today we were visiting her and my 2 year old niece at my FIL's house and niece was into everything, climbing everything, etc... (of course SIL did the minimum amount to care).  Anyways, niece starts climbing on the dining room table and SIL tells her to get down.  Niece runs over to SIL at hits her on the knee, so SIL turns around and slaps her on the leg.  Niece, of course, starts crying and SIL gets right in her face and starts saying, "HA HA HA HA" over and over again to crying niece.  She said to her, "that's what you get for hitting me!  Hahahaha"

I was horrified.  I think my eyes may have popped out of my head.

No advice needed, just venting obviously.

  • Nice, and the cycle will continue.

  • Somebody needs to reel her in before this trend continues.

If ever you see anything funky or you think there is neglect, don't hesitate to call CPS.

  • That sucks.

I would have had a very hard time keeping my mouth shut.

    Hope is not a strategy.

Trust me, I won't hesitate.  Unfortunately we don't see her very often.

Her older sister (my other SIL, who has no children) is just the same.  At Mother's Day at MIL's house niece did something (I think she hit another kid) and SIL turned around and slapped her on the arm.  My dh and I do not have kids, but if she ever did that to my kid I would probably be arrested by the time I was done with her.

  • I see the same thing with my cousin's children.  His sisters are both always doing things like this.  Or if one of the boys has a tantrum instead of trying to calm them down they're making the situation worse by calling them babies or making fun of them... and when one of them dropped the fbomb he got flicked (LIke you would flick a bug away) in the mouth by someone who was NOT his parent. My female cousins are 26 and 30 so at least you SIL has the young excuse.

  • Precisely why you should not be allowed to have children until you are a grown-up!  And having a baby does not make you one...my mom would beat me if she ever saw me treating my yet to be conceived child that way!
  • My sister times a 100 that is why as long as I am living she will NEVER get custody of my nephew again!!!!
