To all the sewers!

I'm looking at getting a sewing machine but I'm not an avid sewer so I don't really know what to look for in one.

My mom and I are looking to start an etsy store and I want to get one to help do some crafts. I could use my moms but I'd have to be at her house all the time.

So ladies help me pick out my sewing machine! I don't want to spend too much money either but I'm willing to save for one!

TIA!

  • One thing not mentioned in the faqs is that you can often get a used machine of very good quality for a good price.  Check with dealers of quality machines like Bernina, Pfaff, etc. and see what they have.

People upgrade and trade them in, or sometimes sell them on CL, although you do need to check those out well, the prices are sometimes really good. Sometimes people inherit them, and have no idea what great machines they have, and let them go for peanuts.

  • I've been checking out some dealers websites in my area, most seem to carry the BabyLock machines. They seem nice I really like the idea of having all the stitch patterns built in. I'm so used to using my moms (very old machine) that the fancy embroidery machines and built in stitches amaze me! Lol
  • I love my Kenmore! I just got into quilting myself and was looking for a good quality machine that was pretty inexpensive. My MIL is an avid quilter and she recommended the Kenmore. The one I got my sister just picked up a few weeks ago marked down cheaper than when I got mine. We both love it!
