I own my own business. I sometimes do contract work for another person in my industry. He approached me yesterday to talk about a merger or an employment situation.
While I'd love the steady income & I don't enjoy being self employed, I know deep down that we aren't a good fit. I find him abrassive. I don't respect him, except his ability to make money which is a skill I lack. The geography doesn't work. I have a delightful short commute now but would be driving 1.5 hours each way in horrible traffic to work with him F/T.
I like our arrangement just the way it is but I know he needs help. He also hinted that he would like to retire in the next few years & possibly transfer his buisness to me.
He's pushing all the right buttons but I still don't want to work that closely with him or for him. How do I say no thank you gracefully? No matter what I will still have to professionally interact with him b/c its a small industry.

I bumped into him today. Told you it was a small industry.
I heard him out. His expections were waaaaayyyyyyy out of line with the compensation he was offering.
We talked about the reasons the logistics wouldn't work so I got out of it with our current arrangement in tact and without directly having to even say No thank you.
