Press conference: What about breed specific rescue groups?

That way the kids can have both a hypo allergenic AND a shelter dog!

  • I'm sure they'll figure it out before January.  No rushing.

And I loved his humorous take on Nancy Reagan and "mutts".  :)

  • We got our Pekingese dog from a toy rescue group.  I am just thrilled they are getting a non-puppy mill dog!

  • Agree. What a lot of people don't realize/research is that there are breed specific rescues for every freaking breed, even the *new* ones. And yes, you can get puppies from these rescues, and no they're not always dogs with "issues."

  • I saw something about this on the Today show yesterday. Super cute.

However, the hypo allergenic thing is a big rip. Hypo allergenic dogs have still sent me to the doctor with asthma attacks.

It really bothers me, because I would love to have a dog. I can't even touch a puppy because my body will itch, my eyes will water and my throat with close up.

  • Romeo was 6 mos old when we got him; there are dogs of all ages available for adoption.  I wasn't looking specifically for a puppy but I wanted a Pekingese since my parents have one & he's such a sweety.  I know others who have Pekes too & they're super mellow & very non-yippee for a toy dog.

  • Breed specific groups are great. My parents used a chow chow group to find a home for a chow puppy they found. They found a woman with a long history of chow chow handling. It was great.
