Free/Inexpensive Activities for Kids

My BIL & SIL are contemplating coming to visit us with their 3 kids next month (ages 5, 3, 1).  They don't have a lot of money to spend on things like theme parks, etc. so I'm trying to brainstorm a list of things they could do that wouldn't cost a lot of money.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Free/Inexpensive Activities for Kids

  • The beach, a spraygound, a park or a bounce indoor playplace. Groupon is always having coupons for those. I like the pirate cruise in Clearwater or the Clearwater aquarium.

That's all I can think of right now. The 1 and 3y/o will get in free most places.

  • Isn't Dinosaur World supposed to be pretty cheap? Probably silly but just an idea :)
  • There are no silly ideas :)

  • Road trip to the beach in Venice and search for shark teeth.  Stop in Sarasota at the park and do the spray ground/play ground.  Mom and Dad can grab drinks at the Tiki bar.

-Largo Central Park - this is a great free place to take the kids, lots to do there, and they recently renovated the park so the play area is amazing (and has astro-turf instead of sand, woohoo!)

-Great Explorations or the Glazer Children's Museum could be tons of fun, but I would keep an eye out for coupons since the price can add up!

-Free spraygrounds in Tampa (Curtis Hixon I think it's called?), Dell Holmes in St. Pete, and there's also one in Oldsmar

    - Lithia Springs state park - I am dying to take my kids here. It's a freshwater spring (so the water is gorgeous, caribbean-color blue and only 72 degrees year round!) and has a beach-area. A friend showed me pics and I can't wait to go. A car with 8 people is only $2, and I think it's just $1 or $2 to swim.

  • A lot of movie theaters offer cheap kids movies on weekday mornings over the summer so for a rainy or really hot day that is always a good standby

  • My BFF took her daughter to some water park place in Dunedin this weekend.  She said it was free and her 3 1/2 year old loved it.

Dino World is a fun place, I took my 2nd graders on field trips there.

And I think every movie theater does the free (or $1 or $2) movies over the Summer.

A lot of bowling allies have super cheap family bowling over the Summer as well.
