What did/do you call your grandparents?

I called my mom's parents Grandpa and Grandma,  though my cousin (their first grandchild) called my grandmother, Gran-mammy.

My dad's parents were Papa (Paw-paw) and Gran.

I know that my future kids will call my parents Grandpa and Nana (my sister already has two kids so names are pretty much decided, barring the kid coming up with something absolutely adorable or being really stubborn). As for my ILs, I'm not certain yet but probably pretty basic Grandma/Grandpa because they are really laid back people and my MIL has told me horror stories of what her MIL insisted the kids call her.

Have any you guys thought this far ahead yet? Megan/Mo, what about you guys? What will/do Carter and Logan call their grandparents?  What would you want to be called by your future grandkids?

I called my maternal grandparents Granma and Granpa, and I called my paternal grandparents Mummu and Vaari (pronounced moom-moo and vaa-ree)

Matt called his materal grandparents Nan and Granpa, and he called his paternal grandparents Granma and Grandad

My mum says she wants to be called Mummu and my dad will either be called Vaari or Pappa.

Matt's parents haven't really said what they'd like to be called.  I expect, though, that just Granma and Granpa will be their names.

  • I had a Granny & Grandpa and a Nana.  DH had a Grandma and Pop pop.

My mom is Maw maw to all of the grandkids and DH's parents are Janney (janice) and Grandpa Joe.

  • Both sides for me are/were (as pronounced): Granma/Gram and Gramps/Grampa

My great grandmother was called Mor-Mor; which is polish slang for Mom's Mom.  My dad grew up calling her this so we adopted it, although really it would have been Mor-Mor-Mor for me:O)

As for the future; we haven't discussed what we'll have our kids call our parents.  For H's family, we'll probably have kids after SIL, so I'd assume they're decide. On my side, we'll probably be the first.  I love Nana for grandmother though

We called both sets of grandparents Grama and Grampa.

Our kids will call both of their sets of grandparents the same if I can help it.  Chris' brother's kids call his parents Nana and Papa and I hate that, so hopefully I can brainwash our kids otherwise Wink

  • My grandparents were/are Gram and Pop and Grammy and Pappy.  DH called his grandma and grandpa.

My parents will probably be nana or mamah and papa.  I would like DH's parents to be granny and ? but his B and SIL are expecting next month so I imagine they'll determine that

  • Grandma and Pawpaw were my dad's parents.  And my mom's were Grandmomma and Granddaddy.

Keith's mom wants to be Granny (BIL and SIL have a baby, but she's only 6 months old).  Keith's dad passed away last year, so I don't know how he'll be refered to.

  • Boring here - just Grandma and Grandpa. No nicknames... I think my parents would do the same for our future children; DH's father has step-grandkids who call him "Grandpa FIL" - I think my MIL might go by a nickname, but she might surprise me.

  • Boring here as well - Grandma/Grandpa for both sides.

DH called his maternal grandmother Gammy.

When we have kids I'm sure my parents will be the traditional Grandma/Grandpa and MIL will be Gammy.

  • My grandmothers were Meme and Meme Joyce.  My grandfather was Granddaddy Don.

My mom said she wants to be known as "Glam-ma" or "Dee-Dee" (Her name is Debbie).  I know good and well she's going to be Meme too! :)  I have no idea what my dad will be called.  We joked about "Bubba" or his childhood nickname "Punky".  We will see!

DH's mom is going to be Nana.

  • We called my dad's parents just Grandpa & Grandma.  My older brother was the first grandchild for my mom's parents, so we (the 5 grandchildren) all called them the names he gave them: Papa (paw-paw) & DingDing.  Yes, you read that right, and here's the story:

When my older brother was very young, sometimes my mom's parents would watch him.  If my grandmother was heating something in the microwave and the timer went off, my grandfather would say to my brother, "Oh, there goes the ding ding!" (meaning the "ding" of the microwave, of course).  Well, since at that moment my grandmother was also hopping up to get whatever was in the microwave out of it, my brother naturally started associating her with "ding ding."  It stuck, and she wouldn't have it any other way.  To this day, she is still so proud of her nickname (especially because it is so unique), and my nephew and niece and even some close friends of the family also call her by that name.  :-)

My nephew and niece call my parents Papa and Grandma, so I suppose if Felix and I end up having children they will call them that as well.  Maybe they would call his mom either "Abuela/Abuelita" (Spanish for "Grandmother"/"Grandma') or Mimi (since her name is Noemi).

    "You're the L and the V, I'm the O and the E...Am I speaking clearly?"
  • My mom's parents were Mom-moms & Pop-po.  My dad's dad died before I was born and while his mom is still alive we really don't ever hear from her, so I've never called her anything.

My parents go by Mammo and Grandpa to my niece and nephews.  Ken's parents have decided they will be Mimi and Papa when a baby comes along.

  • I'm kind of boring, too...my grandparents were Grandma and Grandpa with their first names added, i.e., Grandma Nancy and Grandpa Richard.  Same was true for my great-grandparents, except for my great-grandmother on my dad's side, whose given name I never even knew until I was well into my young adulthood...Jewell Goldie...she hated it!

My parents are just Grandma and Grandpa to my kids too, and we'll say Grandma and Grandpa lastname if we're referring to them as a unit.

My grandkid will refer to us as Emmy and Papa (pronounced like the southern Paw Paw), not because I have a rousing objection to being called Grandma, but because my existing step-grands already refer to us as such and I don't want to confuse the new kid!

  • My maternal grandparents are Grammi & Papa; my paternal grandfather was Pa, and had my paternal grandmother still been alive, she would have been Mimier (not sure how it's spelled, though???).

My nephew calls my parents Grandma and Grandpa (so does the dog when we talk for her Smile ), so Carter will do the same.
