Julie!

So. We eat GF at home.  BUT, in a few months, I have to go dairy and soy free.  I feel like this eliminates a lot of GF foods that I would usually buy.  I am petrified that, if it ends up like Mara (or potentially worse as it has been with each child) and I end up dairy, soy, egg, peanut, treenut, and GF, I have no idea what to eat!

 Any advice?

Re: Julie!

  • Well, it's not advice you're gonna want to hear :) but if you eliminate processed foods it'll take care of all of it.  Trust me, it's HARD at first, but I'm living 100% free of the following:

grains in all forms (incl. corn syrup, xanthan gum, iodized salt, etc.)

    dairy

legumes (peanuts, soy, peas, beans, green beans)

    nightshades (tomato, potato, peppers, eggplant)

    nuts

    pork

    fish

    eggs

    citrus

    tropical fruits

    cruciferous veggies

[For real.  There are actually only 8 foods I CAN eat, plus a handful of spices.   I've been this restricted for 8 months, and while I don't like it one bit, I'm the healthiest I've ever been.  Ever.  I've only been successful in adding one food (special allergen-free sunflower seeds) in these past 8 months... it's very slow going.  Undiagnosed Celiac left me with SO much intestinal damage.]

I share this with you to say that it can be done.  Remember, those specialty gluten free foods are there as a convenience; they're still processed foods, not something a body should probably survive on, you know?  If you start transitioning yourself now, you can get to a "paleo" diet by the time baby is here.  Start using a lot of beef, chicken, turkey (protein and fat are GOOD for you!), sweet potatoes are an excellent carb and fiber source, olive and safflower oils, fruits and veggies... you won't go hungry.  Your body will love you for it!

  • Ugh.  This could be super hard for me.  I only eat chicken in the meat world.... I don't eat veggies...

Peyton does awesome being GF.  She eats veggies great, meat, fruit.  We buy the specialty stuff for snacks at things where everyone else will have cookies/crackers---we take Peyton GF crackers.

I should try some exploring I suppose :)  You may be getting supplemental questions.
