Can someone explain pinterest to me? Layman's terms por favor
So I am not tech savvy. I wouldn't know the first thing about starting a blog, website, etc. But I have a lot of sites saved under my favorites tab and I *think* someone told me before that pinterest would be a way for me to go to one site and see all of the places, blogs, articles, pictures etc that I like and that I have flagged. I guess sort of like an electronic cork/memo board?
Oh and do I have to join pinterest? Or be invited by a friend?
Re: Can someone explain pinterest to me? Layman's terms por favor
You need an account with Pinterest to use the tool and the quickest way to do that is to be invited by someone. You can request an invite from the Pinterest site, but I've heard that can take a few days. If you'd like one, I'd be happy to send you one - there's no limit and never a freeze.
Pinterest allows you to create a virtual pinboard of images from around the 'net. I've saved home decor inspiration photos, photos of recipes I want to make, motivational sayings or silly quotes that are in graphic form. The key is that you're pinning an *image*. You don't just pin a link or something in text form.
For me it's more convenient and I make more use of it than I would a list of bookmarks. I like seeing the recipe I'm interested in making as opposed to just reading a title.
I still use Google Reader for my blog reading and I still have bookmarks to some of my key sites: banking, bill paying, The Nest, Facebook, etc. But for things I'm saving for inspirational purposes, Pinterest is my new Go-To.
Ditto the above-
additionally you can follow people you know, or "tastemakers" which can be anyone from a blogger to a company, etc. and you can do searches- for instance we have a grody gravel patio underneath our deck and I would like to put in a paver patio w/ gravel in between the pavers and I have found tons of cool images of exactly that, along w/ other cool landscaping ideas and created a board of modern outdoor ideas.
They have an iPhone app and I definitely kill time on it on our iPad.
Thanks ladies. SIA for the 20 questions!
So this is more like a site to paste pictures I find out there inspiring/interesting/funny etc. Will this be a public page? Could someone search for my page and find out what I have saved? I know on blogs that people paste links and then say where they found the info. give credit to the source. Would I need to do this? (I hope that makes sense)
and LLHR can you please send me an invite?

Invite sent!
It's anything you want to save for any reason. I have a board called "Hawtness" for pictures of celebs I think are hot. I have a "Made Me Laugh" board, a hair & makeup board, a fashion board, etc.
I have my settings such that I don't show up in searches, but I don't believe that locks my page down completely and utterly. I haven't worried about it much because I'm not terribly concerned with the content being found. I did edit my account so that my full name is no longer displayed, but beyond that, I didn't delve further.
When you pin an image the link back to the original source is saved. You'll be able to click on the image from your Pinterest account and be taken to the website where you originally saw it. That retains the source.
Hey! Can anyone help? I have requested an invite to Pinterest and have not received it yet? Anyone out there want to send me an invite
