People of the Nest:
Yesterday during President Obama's press conference I found myself taken aback. Our president, said something that actually made me proud of him.
I know you guys are thinking my account has been hacked. Rest assured it has not.
The House and Senate need to reach an agreement on whether or not the debt ceiling will be raised. Okay there is no "not" in this debate. It must be done. There should be NO sacred cows in this debate. Some companies will have to give up the tax breaks that they currently enjoy. Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid need reformation (desperately.)
Yesterday the President stated that Congress needs to "Pull off the ban-aid; eat their peas," and I 100% agree.
I've been watching this one closely as it will impact each and every one of us if the US credit status is lowered because the people we put in office couldn't compromise just a little. My stocks and 401K have recovered from the crash of 2008, but I'd prefer not to go through that all again. Especially because this time, it can be avoided. I know the debate still exists, "At what price?" Well it's a price that we are all going to have to pay. I don't want Medicare cut as my parents depend on it. I would love to see Social Security fall by the wayside as I think it's a huge burden on our society that doesn't work. Though the thousands of people who depend on those checks every month would disagree. I believe corporate tax breaks actually work, but when our country is bleeding and corporations are making billions in profits they should pay in too right.
The president is willing to come to the table and for that, in this moment, I'm in agreement with him.

In the spirit of full disclosure I am posting this at the request of rayskit10 who somehow has managed to procure a seat for me at Thursday night's HP screening. While I am over the moon at this and would have run down the street naked, to the dismay of my neighbors, if she asked, I fully stand by my comments above. The President is right on this one. I may never utter those words again, but maybe he'll prove me wrong.
Re: Uhh Hmmm Attention
Oh I agree it should not be raised without substantial plans (in writing) for cuts across the board. raising it without plans for cutting back is a no go.
I haven't opened my windows yet to see if cali is here yet. I expect to hear the wheels screeching around the corner soon
Almond, do we need to put you in the HP viewing protection program?
Have you studied Charms? I might need a disillusionment one.
::small voice:: Actually, the U.S. government takes in more than enough in revenues to service the debt. In fact, the revenues are enough to service the debt even if the debt ceiling were lowered. HOWEVER, the revenues aren't adequate to service the debt AND pay for all the massive spending the government has been doing.
And now I'll return to trying to contain/entertain a toddler in the breakfast room and kitchen while flooring installation takes place. Pray that my head doesn't explode!
I am with @knjepp, cut the spending. We can service the debt with the projected August income. A little pain now for a much healthier economic future.
@almond have fun at the movie!
So Tasty, So Yummy
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted and used against you. My Blog
Amen!
Also, have fun at the movie, almond!! DS and I have been catching up on the earlier movies. I have read all the books, but hadn't seen any of the movies all the way through. We are up to The Half Blood Prince.
