Netflix Subscribers

Did you see this? Not cool.

Here's a summary, they're changing the plans to the following:

Plan 1: Unlimited Streaming (no DVDs) for $7.99 a month
Plan 2: Unlimited DVDs, 1 out at-a-time (no streaming), for $7.99 a month.

The price for getting both of these plans will be $15.98 a month ($7.99 + $7.99). For new members, these changes are effective immediately; for existing members, the new pricing will start for charges on or after September 1, 2011.

Re: Netflix Subscribers

  • stupid. I pay for 3 DVD'd at a time (unlimited) for like $18 a month. I am thinking about dropping it down to 2.

  • Oh this makes me mad.  Very very mad.
  • Wow, that really sucks!  I just started a free trial last month, and I was liking it so well, I was considering staying with it.  Not such a great deal anymore though!
  • That totally stinks.....DH will not be happy.  He tends to stream everything he wants to watch, and I tend to get the DVDs....but I don't see us paying $16/mo for both.  :o(
  • I wish we would be grandfathered in with our current rates/plans & have new subscribers be subject to the new prices. Like most companies do.
  • Wait, so does this mean that EVERYTHING will be available via streaming?  Because right now it is only certain selections, which is why I still use DVDs a lot.  But if you can stream any movie, then I guess it wouldn't be a huge loss.

If that's the case, I won't care at all. But from the comments Im reading, I don't think that's the plan.

This.  If the streaming selection is much much bigger, then I am just fine with this.  I would rather stream.  But the current selection is not so great.

I think we would probably just cancel ours, there is not enough of a selection on streaming to do only that, and we'd probably just get movies from Redbox.

I don't think they can have everything available for streaming, that is usually decided by the production companies I think.

  • My company blocks netflix's website, but I wonder what that will do for gift cards subscriptions. We got a year one at the 9.99 rate, and the year is only half over.  I think we might just stick with the unlimited streaming, at least I can get caught up on some of the older tv shows.

  • Right now we pay $13/month for unlimited DVD's (1 at a time) and unlimited streaming.  So I guess the new plan isn't that much more per month for us.  I wish they would make more available for streaming.  It's a lot easier to watch things that way.

  • Not cool, not cool at all!  They should definitely grandfather us in.  The selection for streaming is not quite decent, it's pretty slim-pickens so I do a mixture of both.  I stay at home so I get episodes of tv shows to watch while I workout, do laundry, etc.  I also get DVD's for movie night with the hubs and some stuff for my DS.  Urg, netflix!
  • I'm not concerned, I only do streaming anyways.  It sucks for everyone else though!

  • I've been thinking about cancelling for awhile. This just seals the deal. I have had one DVD for over 8 weeks and don't ever watch streaming....I might as well just through the money out the window each month!
