Will you be keeping Netflix?  Same plan?

I think we will be ditching it.  Been toying with the idea for a while, but $10 is just so cheap.  I would have been fine with a small price increase, but 60%+ is just a bit too much for me to be ok with.  We will be RedBoxing it starting in September.

Re: Netflix users

  • I think we would just change to streaming only. That's all we really use anyway.

  • Where's the 60% increase?  We pay $16 a month now.

I really need to figure out how to get my netflix to stream on my blu-ray player.

  • if you only have 1 DVD at a time it's 9.99. So it won't affect everyone.

I think we'll just have streaming and hulu+. between the two we can get almost anything (except CBS shows, damn you CBS!) we don't have cable though so we may add the dvds back later if we need to.

  • I think i'm going to switch from 1+ streaming to 2 dvds at a time with no streaming.  There isn't much to stream anyway and $4/mo difference between the two.
  • I feel like cancelling to show protest for a pretty big increase in price with no benefit.  But we probably won't because we are lazy.

I hate when companies who already make shittons of money insist on trying to find a way to squeeze every penny out of their customers.

    We're kind of going out.
  • We have streaming only through H's xbox.  Do you think the streaming selection will go up?  I haven't been too impressed as of yet with new movie releases...
  • We'll probably stay on with the 1 DVD and streaming plan. The increased price is stupid, but DH and I don't ever go out to the movies, so, en balance, it is still "cheaper" than similar alternatives - - and since we also will hold on to a DVD for a week before watching it, we'd end up paying much more with Redbox.

There are a lot of things that we'd like to see that are no longer available on streaming.  I read yesterday that all Sony studio pics were removed from streaming because their contract with Netflix expired and Sony wants to dramatically increase their fee/compensation for Netflix''s streaming rights - - and a lot of other studios are likely to do the same, thus, more streaming options will be disappearing. Boo!

This is our plan as well, and just rent a redbox if we want. For some reason whenever we get a movie it sits for weeks before we even get around to watching it! And DH was so excited to watch True Grit when it came out, but the first two discs they sent were defective, so once we got the third one DH was scared it wouldn't work so we had it for about 3 weeks before watching it. He didn't want to be disappointed again!

  • Cripes.  How much do y'all pay right now?  From what I can tell, I'd be getting a better deal for basically the same price - unless I read the stuff incorrectly.

We pay $10 for streaming and 1 DVD at a time.

We rarely use either one right now so we might just cancel.   We're so lazy with the DVD's.  I think we've had the current one for over a month and we haven't watched it yet.

  • We do streaming only right now.  When we want something "current" we go get it from the Redbox.  Doesn't look like our price is changing.

This is what we pay right now too for same as above. I think we'll switch to just streaming and maybe add Hulu +

  • It is currently $9.99 for unlimited streaming and DVDs one at a time. We pay $11.99 plus tax for that plus BluRay upgrade. If we kept the same plan, the price will go up to $17.98 plus tax per month. That's a sgnificant increase. We are going to switch to streaming only and do Redbox when we want an actual disc. So yeah that's a 50% increase in cost.
  • I think we'll just do streaming. I've had a DVD for about a month now and I still haven't watched it...

  • We are not fast enough to return DVD's promptly to Redbox :(  Our cost will go from 9.99 to 15.98... an 80% increase and we are going to take it.

  • We're going to drop Netflix. We were considering that anyway, but the price increase was enough to push us over the edge.

We're currently paying $9.99 for streaming plus 1 DVD at a time. We just don't think it's worth it to pay $15.99 for the same service.

If we did stay with Netflix, we'd go to the DVD only plan for $7.99. The selection for streaming is dismal. We have 30 movies in our queue and only 2 of them are available for streaming, the rest are available on DVD only.

With Andy's class schedule and my new work schedule, we're only watching movies 1-2 times a month. We could go to Redbox for a lot less than $7.99 for 1-2 movies.
