office girls with dress codes: hose?

Please tell me there is some magical brand or product out there that isn't uncomfortable! Hose is required for all women at my new job. Barf. Then again, I've never had a strict dress code period for work, so I'm panicky. I have hose, I've worn hose, but wearing it every day is freaking me the f out. I have only knee highs for when I am wearing slacks and that's not so bad, but I wear dresses A LOT.

Either share in my boo-hose feelings right now, or post any tips!

Re: office girls with dress codes: hose?

  • I hate hose! I don't think I could get through a whole day without a tear anyways. Maybe it's a rule that's written but once you get there you'll see people don't follow??

At least when winter comes you can wear tights, those are much cuter and more comfortable to wear.

  • Maybe ask on F&B?

The one thing I've learned is I've never found an expensive pair worth the extra money!

  • Hate hate hate wearing them! I always get a run in them and they are so uncomfortable. We don't have to wear them here, or at least no one follows the rule if we are supposed to.

  • Whoever invented hose is seriously the devil in my book. I mean, what were they thinking?!

Sorta have a dress code at work... more of an understanding really, since I'm the only female here. It's kinda complicated to explain, but basically, skirts or dresses are "more appropriate." It's annoying, but not really a big deal since I love dresses. It used to be a bigger deal than it is now, and I just never wore pants. Now, pants are just fine... but I stick to skirts mostly anyway. As such, I wear hose pretty much every day in the winter time.

Sorry to ramble there... what I'm trying to say is that there's no sense in buying expensive hose... go for the cheapies and expect them to last a couple of times. You could also think about wearing thigh highs instead of full fledged hose. I've not worn them because I can't seem to find any where I normally buy them, but I want to try them.

  • I haven't worn them in year, but I used to get the cheap ones at Walmart... they were like $2 a pair. I would always get runs after wearing them once or twice so I never wanted to spend more than that.

Ditto the suggestion for cute tights come cooler weather!

  • I more of a tights girl.  If I want wear a nude pair, I wear these http://www.amazon.com/Capezio-Womens-Ultra-Footed-Medium/dp/B002YQ2GAU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1310507468&sr=8-5 (sorry not clicky).  They are a little pricy, but they are made to stretch in all sorts of ways for dancers so they very rarely get runs.  Plus, they are not nearly as itchy as the normal ones.

  • I cannot stand wearing them!  Since I've lived in the south for nearly 6 years, I doubt I've worn them more than once or twice in that time.  That being said, when I've worn them in the past, I usually got No Nonsense (Almost Bare line).  There held up pretty well.  I might try something like thigh-highs for now or tights for winter and see if that works.  PP's suggestion of a dance type tight might work.  They might be a little thicker, but I don't think I've ever had a pair run.

  • You're all set Cole! Apparently the hose is back in style thanks to royalty.

  • People need to get with the times and learn that bare legs and peep toe shoes aren't scandalous.  Where I used to work, I heard it was a big brouhaha trying to get the old fuddy-duddies to understand that it was ok for women to wear dress pants suits and knee high skirts with no hose.

  • I must be in the minority, but I love hose!!  I so miss wearing them!  I'd be happy if they were back in style.  I always felt so unprofessional in a suit without hose on.

I was going to mention this too!

I never buy expensive ones b/c I'm always getting kicked by accident under the table by my 3rd graders or when we're walking in line.  I also keep a bottle of clear nail polish in my desk to stop runs from getting worse.

I'll admit that I LOVE wearing textured tights (like fancy fishnets - which I wear too).  Sometimes I wear a black dress, and then hot pink or purple tights with fishnets on top of them.

If I have hose that don't like to stay up where they're supposed to be, I wear a pair of panties on top of them and it keeps them where they're supposed to be!

  • I guess I'm in the minority with Brandi... I love pantyhose! I bought a nice, basic garter belt from Vickie's a few years ago and buy their classic stockings in nude. They make me feel really sexy and feminine.

Plus I think pantyhose make my legs look incredible. I wore them almost every day at the US attorney's office even though it wasn't required.

  • I doubt you'll see this reply, but I was using Google to find another Nest posting and saw this! Anyway, I used to have a job that required us to wear hose, so I feel your pain.

I found that JCPenney's hose were my favorite...they're called Sheer Caress. They seemed to last a while without runs! There's silky, control top, etc. I liked Silky Sheer.

I *think* my favorite color was Sand - but I'm really fair, so Suntan always looks weird on me.
