DH & I are planning to take some classes this fall in preparation for our little one. Are there any you would or wouldn't recommend. So far we're considering:

Baby Care - newborn care & safety
Breastfeeding
Father's Class
Baby Finance 101
Baby Talk - child safety & parenting tips
Childbirth Prep (will definitely take this)

Postpartum Adjustments

Also, we really want to take a CPR course, can anyone recommend one?

Re: Which child prep classes?

  • I think you can only take a CPR class through the American Red Cross. I just got recertified a few months ago.

We just took the speed class because it was bewteen plow/flood season so we couldn't comment to the full 4 or 5weeks, whichever they were.

  • As of right now, I'm only signed up for the Baby Talk because they have giveaways and refreshments Smile

Then I'm thinking about taking Breastfeeding Essentials, Childbirth Prep, and Baby Care..

  • We took the four week child prep class and I enjoyed it. It was fun getting to know the nurse-teacher and the other couples in the class. It also helped us get comfortable with getting to the hospital, parking, etc. I'm glad we also did it for my DH just because I think before that he really had no clue what went on during childbirth.

I also liked breastfeeding and baby care. Nothing I learned was very new to me after reading lots of books but it was still nice to get the information in a different way.

  • We took the baby care and four week prep at Mercy. The four week class was ok, some classes were better than others. I think our instructor was kinda dull though. We felt like we were in sex ed and we were the giggly ones in the back. She was kinda ridiculous. I mean come on, we all know how we got pregnant! LOL Plus she would moan and act as if she was in labor. It was very funny when we were deliriously hot in July and ready to pop!

The baby care class was great, especially for new parents. We might actuallly take it again when we have #2 becuase they talked about new findings and regulations.

  • We did Mercy's Breastfeeding and Baby Basics class, along with their childbirth class.  I'd say do those two through whoever you want.  The baby basics was stuff we already knew for the most part, but a good refresher.  In hindsight, the PP adjustment class might not be a bad one to take.  I didn't have PPD, but it's a big adjustment, and the whole focus before you give birth is on the baby, so it might be good to have a quick class on how to take care of yourself, and prep on some of the changes.

  • We took the 5 week childbirth prep class which was okay and good info although not a ton was new to me since I am a big reader/researcher nerd :) I thought it was good for DH to hear though. I also took Breastfeeding Essentials which was helpful. I do think breastfeeding is one of those things that you can't quite wrap your mind around until you try though but it was good to have the basic knowledge beforehand :)

    Ditto all of this.
