QOTD

Do you go in the ocean?

Yes, I'll go into till I feel comfortable, like up to my stomach or so, sometimes further. I'm always scared a shark will get me, even though I know they can get you in shallow water.  If I can see through the water, I'll go deeper.

Re: QOTD

  • When I am around it I definitely go in but usually not deep enough to actually swim Hawaii was the only exception and that was only because Waikiki was pretty tame with the 'sea wall' type of deal. I am so use to freshwater beaches that the salt does usually catch me of guard a bit too.
  • I only go in when it's low tide. And I'll go out to my waist and then float on my back, Dh is usually standing around "keeping watch". Plus I'm one of those, if something is going to happen, it's going to happen. So might as well enjoy the water until the shark nibbles.

  • Totally! I'm happier in ocena water than I am in lake water most of the time. I think it has something to do with the visibility that I usually get at the ocean. If something's coming, I want to be able to see it so I can get out of the way. ;-)

  • I prefer freshwater.  I will sometimes only go walk on the beach in the water up to my knees, sometimes I'll go out up to my chest... depends on my mood I guess.

  • I'll go in but not if it is too rough. I had to get rescued by a lifeguard once in FL when I was about 10 so I haven't really had the courage I used to. Usually it is just a quick dip to cool off. I'll stay in longer if Nick is there with me.

  • Yes, although I prefer pool water. I will go in as deep as I feel comfortable, usually I'll go under a few times. I can't swim like I do in a pool though. I went to Miami about 6 years ago and thought I would get bit by a shark (I think shark week has just ended on Discovery Channel.) When I was just in NJ I got taken down by a wave, complete with the wave pushing me backwards, bathing suit bottoms nearly off, and a load of sand in them.

  • Yep, was just in it last week.  I'm not one to swim out, but going up to chest height is fine for me.

We did a lot of snorkeling on the cruise and in most cases you can't touch bottom, but I wasn't nervous b/c we were in a group and you can see the water since it's super clear.

  • Yep! But only as far as I can touch the ground. This last trip to DE was the first time I've been in the ocean in I don't know how long. We're just not big beach people.

  • Yep.  Depends on where I am and the water conditions.  If it's rough I'm not going in very deep, if it's calm I'll go out to about chin deep.  I'm not a strong swimmer so I have to be able to touch.

If I can see fish or a lot of seaweed I won't go in.

I prefer freshwater or ocean water and prefer pools over all - no fish.

  • I will go in the water until I can't see the bottom.  I have a phobia about not seeing what my feet are on.  I very rarely go in very far on the atlantic coast..that water is darker.  In Destin (where I'll be in two weeks), I could stay out there all day.

  • I am terrified of being in water where I can not touch but I love to play and float in the waves when we go to the beach. Sometimes it just happens that I can not touch but it is just barely.
