Post Graduation job & experience

I feel kind of stuck right now.  I graduated in May and have a great job as a purchasing rep, but the only thing that bothers me is that I would love to have a job that actually requires my degree.  I had my current job before graduation and received my degree in Business.

I just feel lost right right now b/c I would like to be getting experience in a posistion that will help me out in the future.  But at the same time in order to get a job like that you have to have experience.  It's just frustrating.

Sorry, just wanted to vent for a second.  I'm hoping eventually my current place of work will see that I am continually learning and striving to better myself and move me up.  I guess I am just being impatient and want a great job right after graduation.

Re: Post Graduation job & experience

  • You've been out of school for all of a summer.  Give it time.  Just because the road takes a turn doesn't mean it's not going anywhere.  I'm not sure how having a degree in business is exclusive from being a purchasing rep-figure out how the two can combine so you can be gainfully employed and apply what you learned in college.  This sounds like a ripe opportunity to me.

Oh, and btw, GO VOLS!  Big Smile

  • My company requires that our purchasing reps have business degrees. I think the job fits. It's up to you to figure out how to apply your degree to your job. Are there any process improvements you can implement? Can you collect metrics and do some statistics on them? Once you can prove that you are going above and beyond the job description then you can find a way to move on.
