My nephew is going to be Baptized in a few weeks and I'm at a total loss as to what to get as a gift. What are your go-to ideas? Or if you have kids, what did your kids get as gifts that was particularly nice or memorable?
I want to get something that could be a keepsake but without being kitschy. I thought maybe a music box but my sister got one at a shower that didn't "go" with the nursery theme (Cat in the Hat) and they returned it. The only Dr. Seuss music box that I can find anywhere has not so great reviews. A savings bond just doesn't seem significant enough and anything I can find at places like St. Patrick's Guild just seems like "stuff" that isn't particularly useful, memorable, or even practical.
Hopefully some of you have some good insight. This is the first kid I've had the privilege of doing this for but certainly won't be the last!
Re: Baptism Gifts?
Mr. Sammy Dog
I gave a little piggy bank and a check.
We're kind of going out.
Engraved silver cup and/or spoon? I still have mine from when I was a baby and they are adorable!
Otherwise, I've given silver-plated piggy banks engraved with the child's name. Macy's has nice ones - as does Things Remembered.
I have an engraved cup too! Unfortunately, the mom's godfather bought one already for my nephew or I'd be all over it and one of his other side relatives got him a children's bible too. Love the idea of a piggy bank or the plaster kits. I'll go shopping this weekend.
Thanks all!

I found some cute, religious-themed children's book end at Northwestern Book store. They have a huge children's section, so I recommend checking them out if you're so inclined. They have all kinds of religious-themed items from framed prints to books, CDs, blankets, etc. etc. etc.
