Help me organize my home office!

Basically, the computer room ;)

We have a couple book shelves in there and a desk. The desk has one drawer for files and it should be enough. What I am really wondering how to organize is things like index cards, pens, different kinds of paper, miscellaneous office supplies, etc.  There is a closet in there I can use - not a walk in but a few shelves I can use.  Any tips?  (We just moved and I have a bunch of stuff like this thrown into a box, It's daunting to look at all this crap and try to figure out how to make it look nice in the office.)

Re: Help me organize my home office!

  • Sounds a lot like my office. For the smaller stationary items, I have a couple of plastic shoebox size boxes that stack neatly on the shelves.  I also have a bunch of matching boxes in various shapes and colors (Strikt series from IKEA), which hold my messes but still look nice on the shelves.  I broke down and bought a wheeled drawer set w/ three regular drawers and a file drawer and I keep it the closet, wheel it out when I have to do work. Best of luck!

For pens the first thing I did was purge them out-I didn't really need 100 pens! I have a cute coffee cup I put them in. I have a small 3 drawer container that I put my index cards, tabs, etc in.

I also have a shelving unit with a shelf and a drawer. In the drawer I put all of our important documents into various 3 ring binder with paper sleeves. (One for our house, one for us, and one for important other documents. And one last one for the storm damage.)
