Bread and Pickle?

We are going to Lake Harriet tomorrow to ride the street car and I was wondering about Bread and Pickle- is it good?

Re: Bread and Pickle?

  • I ate there this past Saturday with my friend and we both liked our sandwiches.  I had the egg salad and my friend had the hummus wrap.  She had eaten there before and said she enjoyed it.

  • I have mixed feelings about B&P...

On one hand, the food is fresh, sustainable and local. They work really hard to utilize local food vendors and farmers to get much of their produce and other items. The sandwiches were delicious (roasted turkey tasted like it was carved right from a Thanksgiving bird) on fresh, chewy bread. The lemonade and ice cream were also quite tasty.

Downsides: you're paying more for the quality food and sustainability efford. Most sandwiches and burgers are $8.00, which is a little spendy for a snack shack at the lake (it was $27 for lunch for two). The french fries were also a huge disappointment (think cold, soggy McDonald's fries - ick).

It's certainly an improvement over the concession stand that was there before, however, and worth a try to support a great local business (the owner also owns Barbette and Bryant Lake Bowl).

  • I really like it, because the options are so much better than the standard concession stand junk. You can get fresh, healthy food and the prices IMO are very reasonable. I got an egg salad sandwich and I think it was around $5. You can get a huge bag of fresh popcorn for only $2.

Much better than paying $5 for a nasty greasy corn dog, nachos, etc. I love it!
