Suggestions for visiting Rockland (area)
Hi Ladies!
DH is from northern (northern, northern) Maine (Fort Kent) but we are visiting Rockland in 2 weeks for the lobster festival.
Does anyone have any family friendly suggestions for outings? Anything and everything we are willing to do. We have a 3yr old and a 9 month old. Nature, water, museums, amusements whatever. Can be up to 1.5hr travel each way- give or take.
Thanks in advance.
Stace
Re: Suggestions for visiting Rockland (area)
Camden is a lot of fun- they have a beautiful waterfront you can stroll along, and a lot of great restaurants and shops. You can also check out Mt. Battie, which is very family friendly.
If you're looking to get a little further out of Rockland, I would recommend Boothbay Harbor (although I'm a little partial!). There are some beautiful walking trails and parks- you can check out the Boothbay Region Land Trust website (www.bbrlt.org) for all the available areas and maps. The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens are really beautiful as well, and have a lot of family oriented areas. There's a great small aquarium at the Department of Marine Resources that's a lot of fun too with a touch tank (http://www.maine.gov/dmr/rm/aquarium/index.html). If you're interested in a boat cruise there are a couple of whale watches and harbor cruises that go out, and I would highly recommend Boothbay Whale Watch (www.whaleme.com). There are a lot of family friendly relaxed restaurants as well- McSeagull's, Kaler's, The Chowder House, Robinson's Wharf, etc.
Good luck & hope you have a great trip!

I know that my school has taken 2nd graders to the Farnsworth museum, but I have never been so it might be boring for your little one.
There is a small beach in Lincolnville, I don't know on what road, but on the main drag, there is a wall or bushes or something so you can't really see the sand from the road, but you can see the ocean from the road.
