*huge sigh*
I haven't wanted to bring any negativity to the board, so I've been keeping the drama of my life on FB and my blog, but I really am at my wits end.
The short story is: our roommate went crazy, busted the windows in our car, threatened us (but the police didn't believe me), was arrested, was taken to Behavioral Health, escaped BH, came back and broke into the apartment, was arrested again, and then disappeared. That was all 7 days ago. Today he resurfaced via phone calls.
We have been trying so hard to get ourselves removed from the situation with him, but the apartments are making it HELL. The manager has been telling us all this stuff about evicting him and making sure we're safe and working with us, but her boss showed up today and contradicted every bit of what she has been saying.
Anyway, there is a lot more detail on the last few entries of my blog if you're interested. Right now I just need prayers. Good thoughts. Some mumbled "please"s. Anything.
We're out over nearly $4k because of this situation and we're just stunned and scared and scarred and worried.
Please pray that they work with us tomorrow and get us into a new apartment, and that the roommate pays us back for some of the damages. Please.
Thank you, Nesties. Thank you.
(btw, we have a restraining order and I bought pepper spray, so don't worry about that part).

UPDATE 7/11: We have been released from the lease! We had to sign over the rent and deposit we paid, but after all this stress we felt like it was such a small price to pay for our safety and peace of mind. We decided to just leave the management company all together, instead of getting a new apartment in the complex, b/c it became clear they were only interested in our money and not our safety. We have printed the papers to take him to small claims court. In the meantime...
He showed up (after we had all our stuff moved out) and got angry b/c he was locked out of the apartment. His keys were inside, because he left them there when he went crazy. Since his car keys were inside, he went nuts and smashed his OWN car windows with his fist. He then sat in his car from about 9PM-4AM, when he then started setting his car alarm off by getting in and out of it. Then he got angry and smashed the windows of the apartment (again) to get inside.
(all of that was reported to me by a neighbor). I am so glad to be out of the situation! We are going to court on the 18th for our restraining order, and hopefully figuring the small claims stuff out soon. We have been approved for a new apartment and are waiting to move. Until then, we are living out of suitcases at the in-laws and all of our stuff is in storage. I can't wait to have a home again!
Thank you for all the prayers. It feels like we are starting to get out of this mess.

You are totally in my thoughts and prayers. I have found myself in a similar situation in the past and it was NOT good and yet not nearly as scary as what you have described. I can't think of any words of wisdom... but if a cop doesn't believe you in the future, can you go to a different one? We are such a big network I wonder if someone would have a connection? I do to SFPD, but I don't think that helps you.
Hugs.
Oh, Patty, I'm sorry you have to deal with such crazy. Sending good thoughts your way that everything works out ASAP.
And don't ever feel like you can't vent on the board. We're not exactly hopping with activity lately and you know how supportive everyone is around here. Sometimes it's nice just to have people sympathizing with you.
I'm sorry that this is all still going on. I can only imagine how terrifying and stressful this must be for the both of you.
I meant to message you the other day, but haven't had a chance. I heard back again from my friend, and the two girls I mentioned recently found another roommate. I mentioned to her that you may have something else figured out, but asked that she keep her ears open just in case. It never hurts to have options!
I hope this all gets settled quickly for you guys, and that you're able to recoup some or all of your money from this guy as well.
Wow. That's horrible. I am sending you good thoughts. I hope that this gets resolved quickly, Patty!
Please keep us updated.
I just read what was going on via your blog last night and all I can say is wow. I can't believe you and N are going through this right now and you are always in my thoughts and prayers...especially in a situation like this.
I hope you find him and get this all sorted out. I hope the apartment manager gets her head out of her posterior as well. Hugs!
Hi,
I'm very sorry for what you are going through, it sounds very difficult. My first advice is document everything.
There was a recent law passed re: tenants/landlords and domestic violence. It permits a landlord to evict a tenant for domestic violence. It also allows for a tenant to break a lease if they are a victim of domestic violence, I believe. In my opinion, for what its worth, it may apply to you and I don't believe that domestic violence has to be between couples. Google it and see if there is anything in there that can help you.
Is the roommate on the lease? Landlords will be cautious when attempting to evict one tenant and not another. Look into the law I mentioned above, it may help you in working with the landlord.
I will be keeping good thoughts for you and wishing you well. Hang in there and best of luck to you! ((hugs))

Oh Patty, I'm so sorry about this. What a scary situation. I'm definitely thinking of you guys.
Does it seem crazy to anyone else that you would be responsible for this other person's vandalism?? Doesn't the landlord have insurance to cover things like this? It just doesn't seem like you should have to cover it like it was any other damage to the apartment. This seems like a special circumstance.
Also, I'm with Gannon that there has to be some way to get yourself out of there/that lease if you are being threatened and targeted this way. If the landlord isn't handling it quickly and competently, I would try to get out of there asap.
Lots of hugs to you guys!
