XP: How much is your premium for e-ring insurance?

So I am just now getting around to insuring my engagement ring.  I know, I know...Embarrassed

Anyway, I just received my quote from my insurance company, and it is over $45/month.  I realize everyone's premiums probably vary widely with individual rings, but does this seem about right? I really had no idea what to expect.

  • That seems high, but I'm not sure which company you have or what else is on there. We added ours to our homeowners' policy, and DH said the ring insurance was more than the house. I don't think our house was all that much, though, so not really saying much there. I couldn't give you a number, but I don't think it was more than about $20/month?

  • I thought it seemed high, too.  It's through our renters insurance with USAA but the $45 is ONLY for the engagement ring.  I haven't even added on our wedding bands yet.  Indifferent

  • Seems high to me, also. Mine's $28/year for my ring. We're through State Farm and have both renter's and car insurance, too. Maybe that knocks the price down? Not sure.

  • The dealer wouldn't even let DH leave the store with my e-ring unless he already had it insured!  When we were in NY we had it insured as an additional rider on our renters insurance with Travellers - it was ~$650 for the year I believe.  Significantly more than our renters insurance.  We didn't need to specifically add our wedding rings since those are covered within the overall jewelry thresholds of our renters insurance.

It's going to vary significantly by company, size/quality of ring and the area you're in, so definitley call around.  The quote we had from Allstate was over $100 more per year.

  • Mine was so inexpensive (<$500) that we don't have an additional policy on it.

  • Don't feel bad I haven't insured mine yet either, and really need to do that, but I have heard here that it isn't more than like $50 - $100 a year.

  • I got a quote from USAA last week for 64.00 a year on my engagement ring. Of course coverage will vary based on the rings. They do have a quote generator online you could try playing with to see if you get the same quote.

That is what I used. I wonder if it would be different if I called them. Nearly $600/yr is just significantly more than I expected!
