Spirit Airlines

Anyone have any reviews on them?  My sister just found out they cost nearly half of what most other airlines are for a round-trip to Chicago.  But none of us have ever flown them, or even really know anything about them, so before all ten of us (including 2 toddlers) book flights for our family wedding over the Labor Day weekend we'd like some input.  Anybody????

Re: Spirit Airlines

  • I've had a couple of friends fly on there, and they weren't big fans. We were also going to use them for a flight earlier this year...then I talked to my friends and saw the reviews. No good - but I myself don't have any experience with them.

  • I have friends that flew them. No frills, nothing big from what I was told...

  • We're okay with no frills.  More worried about reliablity - don't really want to deal with major delays while travelling with toddlers.  My sister ended up booking tickets for her family.  She said the ticket price may be low, but they hit you with all kinds of extra charges.  Even with the extra charges their tickets were still a really good price.  I think my mom and I will keep looking around.

  • No experience, but really do any airlines have "frills" these days?

I generally fly JetBlue whenever it's an option.

I'd give them a try if they flew out of Dallas.  The closest airport they serve is Austin which is about 3 hours away.

Yeah, around here they were originally only out of JFK, which is one of their big hubs (and might be their home base, not sure).  They finally started flying out of Newark too, but not to most places I'm headed (like NOLA).  Sigh.  It means a trip into Queens to use 'em, but that's still a LOT closer than 3 hours and ususally worth it to me.
