I had a job at a particular agency under temp status from Feb till June (it was in a school so it ended naturally, due to the schoolyear ending). When I left, my supervisor gave me a really sweet note saying how much she enjoyed working with me and how she knew we'd work together again, etc. The site boss said that when and if the job became open for applications (if the person I was temping in lieu of didn't return), I should apply the regular way, through the company's website. He didn't say if I had an "up" at the position due to my having done the job before, etc, but he didn't say I didn't, either.
Now the job has been posted (I call it "my job") and I've done as he said, submitted my application to HR (I didn't go through HR before as I was just a temp and only had to be approved by the local people at the site) and am now waiting to hear. I'm debating, however, if I should contact my supervisor (the one who liked me so much) and let her know that I sent in an application, or just do it the regular, standard way. I don't want to be pushy or obnoxious, but I love this job, love this position, and have a really great relationship with all the people I worked with, and would love to have this job back.
Should I contact her? If so, what do you recommend I say? I'd send her an email.... Any advice would be appreciated and welcomed. Thanks for reading and any input you might have. ![]()

Of course you should! This is the epitome of networking.
I'd say something along the lines of, "I see that [Position] opened up, and I wanted to let you know that I applied for it just as you suggested. I'm confident that your mentoring helped give me the skills for this job." See how she responds, and go from there.
