i'm winding the bobbin by hand, tried no tension, a little tension, medium tension. i switched up the tension on my machine. used different types of fabrics.

Re: shirring sucks ass.
Somehow I think you can blame it on your machine. Mine can't do anything too special to save it's life, but it can shir. First try, following the directions from MADE. And I was shocked. I expected to be screaming by the time I gave up.
Sorry it sucks for you. Have you unplugged your machine and let it think about what it's done?
I'd loan you my machine if we were closer.
I have heard that Brother machines don't shir as well for some reason.
I shir on my 20 year old cheap White machine and it works great and have never tried it on my new machine.

I have a Singer with a drop in bobbin and I machine wind my bobbin and it works like a charm. I use a longer stitch length and do not mess with my tension at all.
I have seen this tutorial referred to on other forums for help with Brothers http://gigglesmum-creativeheart.blogspot.com/2009/10/shirring-problems-i-cracked-it.html
