Re: new job new wardrob
Congrats on your new job! If it's like many office jobs, you should be good with nice pants and a sweater set or good blouse.
Honestly, for that type of thing I start at a consignment store or Goodwill - hey, you never know.
If you're on a budget for your work wardrobe, you might want to look around Banana Republic and see what they have, and copy for less at Target and Kohls.
What works for me is pants in neutrals (chocolate brown, dark gray, light gray, black, etc.) and colorful tops with jewelry. I'm a dress kinda girl, so I usually have one or two in the rotation as well. Make sure you also get a jacket that goes with at least two pair of the pants, so that when you have a higher-level meeting you're ready for it.
YAY! Congratulations on your new job!
Two thing to consider:
1. Do they have any dress code requirements? (some places won't let you wear open-toed shoes for example, or require pantyhose if you wear skirts)
These types of rules are good to know before you spend money on something you can't wear.
2. What's your work environment? For example, in my current job I have an air conditioning vent right above my desk, and so I am pretty much freezing 100% of the time I'm at work! I always have to wear or bring sweaters or sweatshirts (I can dress casually) to keep from freezing. Also, it's good to know if you will be mostly sitting or if you will be on your feet much (you'll want comfy shoes!).
Anyway, once you know what you can/want to wear, department stores can be a good place to look because they tend to have more sales/coupons than other stores (like Express, Ann Taylor, & Banana Republic), and often have similar items at different price points. Recently I've had good luck at Lord & Taylor, and Macy's for work clothes: suits, jackets, dresses, dress pants, etc. Kohl's is good too. I've bought several pieces on sale and/or with coupons & got items over 50% off!
Have fun shopping & congrats again!
