Hardwood Floor Finishing

We just purchased a foreclosure and the hardwood floors have seen better days. Forgive my ignorance - we've always had laminate - but how can I tell if the floors are "finished" (sealed)? I know many products say to only used on sealed floors. The house is 2004 so I know they're not old floors - I presume everything nowadays is finished? Also, any suggestions on what would be the least expensive way to get the floors looking good again? They're got some scuffs/scratches and just look worn. Thanks ladies!

Re: Hardwood Floor Finishing

  • We too have hardwood floors that have seen better days and are in desperate need of a refinish (our house is hardwood throughout though so it is going to cost A LOT).  I started using OrangeGlo for Hardwood Floors 4 in 1 cleaner.  It makes our ratty looking floors shine again.  The biggest downside to it is that it does NOT smell good.

  • Thanks - that's too funny you mentioned that. They just had a commercial for it & I was wondering if it worked.
  • we have a 50 year old house that had wood floors everywhere we had them sanded and refinished before we moved in. it was much easier then having to move furniture again. i keep up with them with the orange glow stuff as well and use fuller brushes hardwood finish stuff. it works great. our floors take a beating with my two Black labs and a Jack Russel running all over them. hth!
