Where to stay in Cape May?
I'm thinking about planning a weekend for DH and me to go down to Cape May. I've never been there -- any suggestions on where to stay? Nothing crazy expensive, and I'd prefer not a huge hotel.
Re: Where to stay in Cape May?
I stayed at the Star Inn a few years ago and we liked it. They're right across from Congress Hall (same owners) which is a bigger hotel so you get to use their pool and cabana's on the beach.

The only two other places I've stayed in Cape May are the La Mer and The Marquis.
The La Mer was ok, it's not really walking distance to all the shopping in town but it's a beachfront hotel and you can get a room facing the beach with a huge balcony. There are 5 floors maybe so it's not really a small hotel and the rooms are clean but nothing to write home about. It's also at a less busy spot on the beach. The balcony was definitely the best part. It was so relaxing to hang there at the end of the day and have a few drinks.

The Marquis is nice because I believe all rooms either have a balcony with two rockers or you have a patio at the pool. The interior of those rooms was not impressive either. Think hard beds, thin comforters, just eh. That hotel is close to the center of town where all the shopping is and is also facing the beach.

I researched a lot of the hotels down there when we were married there. I liked the Star Inn because the rooms were so much more comfortable and homey compared to some of the others we saw which were just the standard hotel room and the Star Inn was more affordable than the really high end hotels. Sucks they're booked.
I don't know if you are a fan of B&Bs, but we loved the Queen Victoria

we just stayed at the John F. Craig House last month, and it was a ton of fun! it's about two blocks from the beach and two blocks from the "downtown" part of cape may. there's no pool, but why worry about a pool when you're that close to the ocean!? they have beach chairs and towels for you to use, and they also have bikes for you to ride.
the best part - "tea" time everyday at 5:00PM includes wine. we were there for four days, and everyday at 5:00, no fail, the entire house was on the porch drinking and chatting. we've been to a few B&B's, including a few others in cape may, and this by far was our favorite!!
