Re: Your favorite crock pot recipe?

  • I don't really have a favorite one but I need to start writing ones down so that when September comes I can start doing crockpot meals.

Have you heard of "freezer meals"  I can give you some websites/blogs that you can prepare now and put in the freezer for when Peyton gets here.  I have done many meals and it's so nice and easy to pull something out thats all ready!

I talked with G about freezer meals and he does not like that idea, so I told him either he eats meals from the crockpot or he goes and gets dinner each night. I would love to do freezer meals but he won't eat them (he won't even eat a frozen dinner). Picky boy!

I'm sorry Heather, but I have one thing to say about that.  You are going to be tired beyond belief.  You will be sore and sleep deprived and if freezer meals for a month help YOU out, then DH can deal with it for a bit, it's not like that will last forever.  Even crock pot meals are a little time consuming in that 1st month, and about that 2 week pp mark, you will be more tired than you have ever been in your entire life... you will be in survival mode!  I hate to be negative ninny at such a joyous occasion, but if DH is working, YOU will be the one getting 4 hrs of sleep every 24 because of baby duty, changing poop, washing clothes, cleaning up spit up, feeding, burping then doing it all over again Every. Single. Day, and YOU should do whatever you can to stay sane and healthy and happy that 1st month or so!!!!!  I do freezer meals, and I can tell you, they don't taste like freezer meals.  He will never know the difference between something cooked a month or two before and then just stuck in the oven to reheat or something you spent all afternoon cooking fresh.  Cut yourself some slack and do what you need to do.  Make things as easy as you can now so you can spend all that extra quality time bonding and loving on that sweet baby girl (and resting while she is napping- naps don't last forever with babies, either!)!  She will grow up too fast and you want every memory in your head you can possibly get!  Love you, girl.  Don't take what I just said the wrong way.  It just rubs me wrong that you have been thru everything that you have, plus what you still have to go thru, and he isn't willing to compromise because he is picky.  Not. An. Option!!!  =)  And I know what you're thinking... my DH is selfish and goes out on the boat a lot leaving me at home to tend to Bug, but you know what?  When Lane gets here, he knows until he gets the go ahead from me (as in I am refreshed and have a routine down), I will burn said boat into a pile of ashes if he so much as brings it up, and he knows it.  Help is imperative!  Helping yourself is the only guarantee you have =) Also, keep in mind that you will need to eat thru out the day and night so easy for you is good.  Make some stuff ahead of time and freeze it in single meal portions so all you have to do is spend a few minutes warming something up for yourself when you need to eat.  You won't feel like going to the grocery for a little bit, nor will you want to take the baby out for strangers to touch and oogle over.  I know for me, I don't have a bunch of local friends and family that were able (or are able to next month) to come by, let me get a nap, help out, bring meals, do a load of laundry, visit with adult conversation, etc.  I had to do 99% of it all on my own, especially because DH was so lackluster about it and I felt guilty about making him get up throughout the night knowing he had to work all day.  Basically he got 8+ hours of sleep every night and I got squat.  It was hard, but worth it, but I prepared in advance knowing this.  And not to mention a bad thing, but what if you have to have a c-section?  It's 10x harder then.  Prepare in advance!  =) I am truly not trying to be bitchy.... just realistic.  Oh, and I am also just a tad hormonal these days, so forgive me if this sounded more like a rant than friendly advice. ;)   (((((hugs)))))
