Update on Lesson Demo

The lesson demo went pretty well. I actually was right on time at the end. They were a good group of kids and we had a good discussion. I didn't talk about Ellis Island itself as much as I'd planned to but that was okay given the time. I did all the activities though. The principal said he thought I did well and he liked how I made the historical issue relevant to today. He said he would let me know about the position by the end of July. It's for Econ and Govt (12th grade). Thanks to all who helped! I really appreciate it!

Re: Update on Lesson Demo

  • Good news! Keeping fingers and toes crossed.
  • Awesome! Good luck!

BTW, I think about you every Thursday. Apparently the BYU (?) channel on Comcast is showing an hour segment of AoGG movies every Thursday night. I have been watching it and thinking of you. :)

The 1 hr teasers make me want to get all the movies out and have a marathon.

  • Good luck! I am so happy that you think it went well.

Yep, I've seen that because they also air Sullivan's series Wind at my Back. Have you watched all 4 movies (incl the one from 2008)? It was strange. The original 2 are still the best. I have the first 3 in a trilogy set. The behind the scenes/extras are nice.
  • Woohoo!  Go H!  I knew you would do well.  Good luck, I am keeping you in my thoughts!!

  • Yay!!! Lesson demos are always nerve wracking. I did one for a school district here but instead of kids the administrators were the "kids." It's really weird to teach to full grown adults like you would to kids. Good luck! Hope you get it!

That would be totally weird. I've heard of that and I'm sure that would be worse. This was weird because I didn't know the kids so it's like being evaluated on the first day of school with brand new kids. I didn't know how many kids there would be so it was hard to know how many copies of things to bring or how to divide up groups. There were 20 9th graders and 4 12th graders, which is a weird spread. I didn't have a list of their names/they didn't wear name tags so I had to just say the boy in the hat or the girl in the orange shirt. And they didn't let me into the classroom I would be using until like 5 mins before I was to start since another teacher was in there. I had to scramble a bit. I guess I should be thankful they didn't plant any "badly behaved students" to act up and see how I handled them!
