Britax Marathon vs Marathon 70

DS has the Britax Marathon which we have loved and I have bene keeping my eye our for deals on that same seat for when DD is ready for it.  I saw they now have a Marathon 70 which looks to go up to 70# and also seems to have more padding and a head cushion (just what I can see in pics).  Does anyone know much else different between these seats?  Going to check out the britax site now-

Re: Britax Marathon vs Marathon 70

  • Those are the big differences. The new seats have "Safe Cell Technology".

They upped the weight limit but not the overall height, so really the new weight limit is not worth it. No child will make it to 65lbs in that seat anyway.

The 65lb Marathon has a better price, but I think you can find pretty good deals on the new ones too.

Oh, and the newer one has a 7 year expiration rather than 6 years.

  • Thanks for that link- I tried comparing and it wasn't working for me!

I did find the Marathon 70 for around $218 on sale- so a really good price...am thinking I may just go with the new one more so for the extra softness and cushiness it is suppsoed ot have, along with the head cushions.

From past posts, I am thinking you are the nestie who is very knowledgeable inc ar seats right?  Just curious...when do most parents switch from the convertible seats when they ahve such high weight limits like they do?

Yep, I know a few things.

It really depends on your child and how their build is. My DD is just now about 28lbs. She will likely be in her Marathons until they expire. She is average on the height chart, so I don't think she will outgrow it by height anytime soon. I believe she was 36inches around her 3 year appointment.

My DS is riding in a Roundabout 50, and we will keep him in that until he outgrows it. If he outgrows it before he is ready for a booster, then we will move him to a Britax Frontier. We may move DD to this as well, because of her small stature and low weight.

The earliest I would suggest moving a child from a convertible is 4 and 40lbs. However, they still might not be physically ready at that point either.

Here is a really informative video:

  • Thanks for that link.  I had heard the same thing before with the age of 4 and 40# but I plan to keep him in it as long as possible after that with him being on the taller side.  Thanks for all your input-
