Birthday snacks at daycare?

Do you send snacks/treats to daycare with your kids for their birthday?  I just thought about this and should really get on it since they would have to go Friday :)

I was just thinking Archer Farms fruit leather or maybe Annie's fruit snacks.

Re: Birthday snacks at daycare?

  • It used to happen fairly frequently at our old daycare.  It doesn't happen at all at the new one.  I lean toward no, simply because most of the time it was crap my kids couldn't eat, so all it did was make them cry when I took it away.  :(

We've been making blueberry muffins each year for Owen's birthday treats at school. They're sweet but better not as bad as candy and crap. No frosting either.

  • Yeah, I can't bake anything b/c Evan can't have much dairy or any eggs....and I haven't quite figured out the tricks with egg replacer yet. I know he can have (and loves) fruit leather and he's the only one with food issues. He's never had fruit snacks but I hear Annie's are safe :)

  • We made a trail mix of sorts for Delaney's birthday.  We go to a small in home daycare with no kids will allergies, so we were able to make something.  We just threw together some Cheerios, Rasins, small crackers etc. because at that time D was just starting on table food.  It wasn't full of sugar and easy for our DCP to serve!

  • And here I come, the mom you all can't stand.....In the past I've had the kids bring cake pops, donuts, cookies, to name a few, for their birthday snack :)   I just make sure to steer clear of nuts due to a peanut allergy at daycare.  No other allergies or dietary concerns with any of the other kids.  And I make sure it's nothing messy, because I want my dcp to still like me.   Glare on....

Yes  Our daycare lady provides all of thee above for birthdays at her house.  Not all at once....that I know of.  ;)

  • Depending on your dcp, you may have to have it be store bought. It sounds like alot of dcp's are pretty lax about that, but I know our center has it right in their manual - nothing with nuts and has to be store bought.

When I worked in daycare, we had several parents who brought treats for the teachers (cookies, cupcakes, something unhealthy), and then brought cheerios or something "safe" for younger kids to try eating.

  • I've done donuts and oreo cookies.  This year we will probably do a small treat, but since Avery goes to a daycare center I was thinking of hiring a puppeteer or magician or face painter to come to daycare as a special treat and skipping a big party.  Mess stays out of my home and lots of kids at daycare can enjoy.  I would just take an hour off work to participate.
  • We do treats.  I don't believe any of the daycare kids have allergies.  I did cake pops last year.

I think the fruit treats are a great idea!
