  • Did you try to snake it? We had to do this in the upstairs bathroom.

  • Use the foaming pipe snake from Drano or Liquid Plumber.  If it starts to foam up out of the drain, stop pouring and go back 5-10 minutes later, pour some more, and repeat until you get the whole bottle down (the foaming stuff is meant to be used the entire bottle at once, but I've never been able to get the whole bottle to pour down the drain without overflowing into the tub).

Once it's all in there, leave it in about thirty minutes (after the last of it goes in, not from the beginning when you start pouring it).  Then rinse it down with a lot of hot water (leave it running for like 5 minutes).

  • Did you take out the S trap and clean it? It is so gross all kinds of soap and stuff builds up in that s and makes your tub drain slow. If that is clean the issue is somewhere else in the pipes and not close to your tub.

  • I don't know if this is the right thing to do, but I've used bleach.

I throw a few cups down the drain and do nothing overnight. The water goes down much easier in the shower the next morning.

  • snaking it would probably be best - we've done baking soda and vinegar plus a few drops of dish soap.  this is what i use to clean and it really breaks down the build up from soaps and conditioner.

  • He did take out the metal stopper and guts. Cleaned all that out and tried to snake it with a coat hanger. Lol. I am going to try the liquid snake that Elf suggested. The really sad thing is that his friends gpa is a plumber who we could get a snake from. Grrrr. I refuse to pay someone to fix this! Thanks girls

  • Doing the snake is best.  Pouring stuff down, despite what the bottle says isn't best and the stuff that really does work usually needs a license to buy.  (Of course so you still pay money)

I think you can rent or buy a snake tool from Home Depot.

  • we have a snake. I think it was no more than $20 at lowes or HD

  • This is such a gross process, but we purchased one of those pipe cleaner type scrub brushes (firm bristles, looks like a Xmas tree)...shoved it down there, twirled it a few times and removed so much hair and nasty crap.  Now our tube drains 100% better.
