Rice cereal

M hates the rice cereal, what do you recommend?  Keep trying to give it to him?

Re: Rice cereal

  • how many times have you given it? S seems to hate everything the first time (including the rice cereal). After 2 times or so he likes everything!

  • Delaney hated the rice cereal too!  We tried every night for a couple weeks...mixed with warm water or BM.  Then, we switched to oatmeal cereal and she liked that so much better.

  • Just 2 times.  I just wanted to know that maybe he'll eventually like it.  Did you start with just the plain rice cereal?
  • Have you ever tried rice cereal?  It's nast. Try mixing it with sweet potato.  They don't really need cereal anyway.  It's mostly for practice.

  • DD didn't like it at first either. Then, she devoured it and eventually became constipated from it. So, we then switched to oatmeal instead. We went straight to oatmeal with DS.

  • We didn't even do any solids until 6 months (or longer), but I do remember someone saying to offer a food 10 times before deciding they don't like it.
  • yeah my SIL just said today that she never gave any kiddos rice ceral as they say its not really needed any more. She started with bananas and sweet potatoes I believe per the recommendations of her pedi. I was asking these questions as my sister was asking me last week about stuff when my niece gets older.

  • I had to experiment with the consistency of it for a while....eventually I discovered that he liked it thicker. And then I just mixed it with his other food. We only did rice for a couple months, and then switched to oatmeal around 6 months when he was eating a lot more baby food. His favorite became oatmeal mixed with applesauce.

  • We tried rice cereal at 4 months.  He loved it (once I realized he liked it thick...not runny) but it made him super constipated. We only did it less than a week.  We suspended solids til 5 months when we started sweet potatoes.  His pedi said rice/oatmeal aren't needed, it's more for practice.  She was fine with us starting veggies at 5 months b/c E was clearly ready!

  • We started rice cereal just a little at 3 months and offered it once a week and he didn't like it.  I changed the consistency to be more like mashed potatoes and he seemed to do better with it.

Since we have been through all the first vegetables and fruits, DH is going to start putting applesauce in it to sweeten it up.

  • Our feeding last night went much better.  I will probably continue the once a day feeding for a while before we introduce anything else.
