When you said you wouldnt switch a kid until they were 4 or 40 pounds.  What would you switch them too?  My daughter is almost 4 and a half and is 41 pounds.  Im ready to switch her seat and she is too.  What would you recomend?

I would like to get a new one for Cade too, preferably a grey one (currently we have tan..and while I know thats not as important as safety, I would like to get the best of both worlds...if possible) do you have an recomendations.

Re: supercutebenz

  • Kristen, what are your kids riding in right now?
    Holly
  • Camdyn is currently using "The First Years True Fit"

And Cade is in a Fisher Price Safe Voyage.

I like both seats, but the Safe Voyage is coming close to the expiration date, and the First years True fit is also nice, but I would like to move it to our other vehicle and finally get two car seats that actually match each other somewhat...and the interior of our car.  We just got a new vehicle and I am hoping to get two grey instead of a red one and a tan one!  Mostly because I am already in the market for one anyways...and I need to have two in our other vehicle and the one I have for Camdyn in there she has now outgrown and it is nearing its expiration as well and its pink so I dont want to use it for Cade.

  • It depends. Are you wanting to switch her to a regular booster or a harnessed booster?

Do you feel like she is ready for a regular booster? If she still falls asleep in the car, slouches down, will pull on the seat belt behind her, etc then she may not be ready.

    You should also do this:

To see whether your child's ready to move into a booster, have her sit in it and check that she's sitting all the way back against the seat back with her knees bending at the edge of the seat cushion. If she's too small for the booster, her legs will stick straight out and she may slouch or slide forward in the seat, both of which can be dangerous. While she's in the booster, also check the position of your car's lap belt (it should cross her hips ? not her belly ? and touch the top of her thighs) and the shoulder belt (it should land on her shoulder ? not her neck or upper arm ? and cross the center of her chest).

If you are looking at a harnessed seat, then I would say go with the Britax Frontier. If you are looking for an unharnessed booster, then I would probably go with any of these: Britax Parkway, Sunshine Kids Monterey, Graco TurboBooster, or  I have also heard good things about the Clek Oobr.

You could probably test one out at BRU on the bench there, and then you would have an idea of how she fits into one.

Ultimately, it really just comes down to whether or not she fits properly and is mature enough.

  • The Graco Nautilus is a good seat too (comes in gray), but the Frontier has a better fit as a booster. The Frontier is also better for larger kids (I believe it is wider/deeper than the Nautilus), so it offers more space to move around. Some kids have an issue with the crotch strap on the Nautilus being too short too.

  • Oh, and you can check out www.carseatblog.com. Darren (the guy who runs it) has video reviews of quite a few seats as well as comparisons. It kind of makes it a little less overwhelming. Smile
