Is anyone planning to line the motorcade tonight or tomorrow, or stand in line for visitation?
I think we're doing the motorcade and visitation tonight.
I still think it's so cool that we can have a president and first lady buried right here. I covered the President's funeral for the newspaper back in 2006 and it was an amazing experience. I was so sad to hear of Mrs. Ford's passing.
Re: Betty Ford
I've been thinking about going to the visitation tomorrow morning, but hadn't really decided yet.
I watched it all during the president's funeral. It was a really neat experience, for sure.
I'm the exact opposite--I deliberately chose to work in Muskegon today (and the rest of this week) to avoid the traffic and commotion.
I agree that it is really neat, but I don't feel the need to be part of it.
I took the kids to the motorcade processional downtown. Betty Ford did so much as an individual for women and all people. I wanted to be there to physically show support to her family as a "thank you" for sharing their mom/grandma with us.
It was kind of powerful to be there, and I'm glad that I've brought the kids to watch both her and her husband's processional.
Yes.
The grandchildren were thanking members of the public as we filed out of the museum after viewing the casket. I wanted to give them all hugs.
I just went to the museum. I'm glad I went. I new very little about Betty Ford up until a week ago. But what I've read since then has impressed me. Her candor about breast cancer and women's rights was impressive.
But, OMG, my shoes. I've never been so horrified by my shoes before. I was pretty much the only one in the museum besides the security, honor guard, and whatnot. It was completely silent. And then I walk in. The the heels of my shoes clicked so loudly and echoed so badly as I walked across the lobby. It was awful. It seemed disgraceful in some way to have such obnoxiously loud shoes given the environment.
It's very cool that all of you are participating. And now I'm feeling like a GR loser for not going.
Kasa, my shoes are always loud. I seem to notice it especially at Office Max for some reason. I feel like everyone in the store hears me walking around. Obviously not quite as solemn an environment, but I can definitely relate to loud shoe embarassment.
