Stamped Concrete

Does anyone have any personal experience with a certain company? We're looking to do stamped concrete instead of a deck in our backyard.

Thanks!

Re: Stamped Concrete

  • I have info at home, I can message you later with.  They did 2 of our friends house this past month, and it turned out nice.  We were quoted $3k for ours with a firepit built in, but we have to replace the driveway, garage floors and sidewalks this summer :(

I would like that, thank you! Sounds pretty reasonable and it's always good you can see the results.

  • Mary can you please send me the info too?  We got a couple people to quote this year and are looking to replace our deck next year since we had to get a new roof this year instead.

  • I can send it to you both.  I think we were getting a deal on it though, but they did a good job, and even put lights around the edges and stamped a compass on our friends patio.  The last quote we got was just under $5k.

The one thing I didn't realize is that it does have some upkeep...I guess you have to reglaze it every 2 years and it's about $250-300 for someone to do that.  I never knew that and the other contractor didn't tell us that.

  • Humor me here - is a stamped concrete patio just one big slab of concrete that is made to look fancy?  I assume there are no crack throughout it that you have to worry about weeds/grass growing through?  We currently have a brick patio that looks like a jungle at the moment because we are too lazy to keep it up. I would love to get something less maintenance - I can handle reglazing every couple years.

Mary:  Are you doing concrete for those as well with the same people?  If so, do you mind sharing your quote for the driveway?  We need to get our driveway done and DH wants concrete.

  • This is who we used, and we loved working with them.  The owner was on site working every day.  We paid ~$5,000 I believe for our patio and sidewalk leading to it (we're on a corner lot).  There's a decorative stamp around the edges too.  Here are some pictures of what it looks like as they're putting it in, and the finished product.  Their website has a video where they explain how it's done too.

You can see in the pic below where they started sealing it...the right side has sealer, the left doesn't yet...

We could have re-sealed ours this year (it needs it) but we're waiting until next year, at which point we'll have had it three years.  You can re-seal it yourself, you don't need to have someone do it for you.  It's basically this stuff you spray on.

It's a mess getting it done--when they stamp it they throw this powder on top of the cement (helps give it kind of like a two tone look) and that powder gets everywhere.  The company we used was VERY good about cleaning everything up, and they don't drive all over your lawn with the cement either.  They lay down boards and drive the little buggy on the boards when bringing the cement to the area getting done.

We also got a quote from this company, and other people in our sub have used them and been happy.  We got a quote from this company too, which was WAY more expensive.  Someone in our sub had used them and we just didn't see the difference in patios to spending so much more money on them.

    GL!

The patio people only do that type of work.  We received one quote so far for the driveway, and we set up to have one more quote.  The other contractor is doing a job in FLA right now, so we might be waiting a week to get that quote.

DH has all of the info on the driveway, so I will ask him for the info and get back with you.
