Do you have any specific international websites you like for goods? I kind of want to send them a crock pot, but I can't get good details on amazon to see if the plugs are correct, and BBB doesn't ship internationally. Are there other websites I should be looking at for overseas orders - or will I have trouble paying with a US credit card (for some reason?).
Re: **Nanner*
No, we generally either shop local or Amazon. Sorry I can't help with that!
However, as long as the voltage is 220v, if the plug is wrong they can easily get an adaptor for a couple of bucks. It's the voltage you really have to worry about.
They told me that even with the 220V appliances, anything with a heating element or a motor could be subject to damage with just an adaptor. Have you had any trouble with adaptors for your 220V appliances? With things such as kitchen appliances (I am thinking of a crock pot)?
Interesting. The only 220v appliance we have to use an adaptor for is our blender, which has a Europlug, but our sockets are Type G. We haven't had any problems with it at all. I don't get why there would be a problem. As long as both the appliance and the electrical current is 220v, there shouldn't be an issue with overheating, even with an adaptor.
The problems we HAVE had were when I tried to use one of our 110v appliances from the U.S. Between the adaptors and the voltage converters, when we first got here I got confused a lot on what I needed to do. So oftentimes I'd use the adaptor and not the converter. Other times I used the adaptor AND the converter, but forgot to switch the converter to the high-wattage setting. I burned up my crock pot, rice cooker, and blender this way. (Which is why I now have several 220v appliances!) Luckily I've been super careful with my stand mixer and food processor.
