Re: Harry Potter Day Chat (Possible Spoilers if you Haven't Read Book 7)
Who are you going with? Are they big HP nerds too? I will be going with some of my former students, and, of course, we are Latinists and we are HP nerds.
What are you most excited about seeing in the movie? Mrs. Weasley saying, "Not my daughter you b!tch!"? I know that I'm going to cry when Fred dies. I love the twins.
Are you sad/happy/indifferent A bit sad. I mentioned it yesterday but my mom and I became huge fans when the first movie came out. We had never read the books at that point and my dad felt that he should take me to see a kids movie. He fell asleep and we became addicts. Mom even went with me to three midnight releases of the books and even bought the last book at that time with me. We read together for about 24 straight hours. Thankfully, Bill is an HP nerd too so it does help.
Do you wish the whole thing would have ended differently? Why, oh, why did she have to kill a twin? Couldn't she have taken Percy the Worm instead?
Anything else? I'm seeing it in 2D tonight and I think we're going on Saturday morning to see it in 3D Imax and we're going to see it at least one other time (possibly at the Harkins on their big screen).
When are you seeing the movie? Tonight at midnight following a showing of 7.1
Who are you going with? Are they big HP nerds too? My cousin and my friend, neither of which has read the books. I told them there is to be no talking during HP, only afterward if they have questions.
What are you most excited about seeing in the movie? Agree. Not my daughter ***. I think people will cheer, I know I will.
Are you sad/happy/indifferent? I am bittersweet. Glad to see it because it's Harry Potter, sad to see it end.
Do you wish the whole thing would have ended differently? I think the whole ending is a little confusing, so I will be interested to see how they make it make sense to the movie-only crowd.
Anything else? Woo Hoo!
When are you seeing the movie? Not sure yet - we're watching all the other movies first, and we're 1/3 through #4. So, probably the end of next week or so.
Who are you going with? Are they big HP nerds too? DH... he's definitely not a HP nerd. He doesn't even know if he's seen all the movies! He keeps telling me Dumbledore is coming back, that he can't be dead.
What are you most excited about seeing in the movie? I dunno, just the whole thing
Are you sad/happy/indifferent? Sad... I love books/series that suck you in and keep you interested, and I want them to go on indefinitely. Like you said yesterday, I'd be up for HP 17 & the dominoes
Do you wish the whole thing would have ended differently? Does "not ending at all" count as ending differently?
When are you seeing the movie? Saturday night
Who are you going with? Are they big HP nerds too? SIL and her friends, they have a big group and have seen all the movies together. H has gone every time, I've only been there for 5-7
What are you most excited about seeing in the movie? Neville killing the snake. I love Neville.
Are you sad/happy/indifferent? A little sad. I know it's blasphemous, but I really didn't love the last 2 books so I was really sad after 5 was over.
Do you wish the whole thing would have ended differently? Yes. I can't say how exactly, but I felt like the last 2 books were all over the place, and didn't wrap up the story as much as I would have liked.
When are you seeing the movie?
Tonight at midnight - AMC Northpark
Who are you going with? Are they big HP nerds too?
My best friend, Jodi. YES - possibly a bigger HP nerd than me.
What are you most excited about seeing in the movie?
EVERYTHING. Seriously.
But good call, y'all on the: Mrs. Weasley saying, "Not my daughter you b!tch!"?
Are you sad/happy/indifferent?
Happy, Excited AND Sad.
I can't believe it's almost over...
Do you wish the whole thing would have ended differently?
Other than not wanting it to end at all?
I think I'm still a little bitter about Sirius and Dumbledore dying, too...(yeah, that's old news, and I kind of understand why they had to, I just didn't like it)
And this: "Why, oh, why did she have to kill a twin? Couldn't she have taken Percy the Worm instead?" (good call again, Julie).
When I read the ending, I wasn't sure that I was satisfied with it - but ended up finding peace with it - and ditto that it will be interesting to see how it translates in film.
Anything else?
I'm bummed I don't have any HP gear to wear to the movie tonight... seriously considering making myself a "My Patronus is a Unicorn" shirt.
Leslie,
In that link that you posted yesterday, one of the pictures was of the Trafalgar Square screening. How neat would that have been?
I'm not gong to answer the questions because, while I love, Love, LOVE the books, I never got into the movies. (I'm like that with most book/movie combo's).
However, I may go see this one after the crowds die down just to see what they've done.
Anyways, here is a quote I saw somewhere else today, and thought some of you might like it:
"Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend."

Me too! My one HP shirt got lost when we moved and I never bought another one. I was thinking of making one today for the last hurrah.
I feel like Mrs. Weasley is passionate about her family and when her family is threatened she becomes a different person - I totally loved the line.
Seeing 7.1 first tonight, I know that I will cry again when Dobby dies. Poor little good elf.
I am taking an entire box of tissues, because I really feel like when they take off from Gringott's on the dragon until the end will just be one big cry-fest for me. With my hormones being in ten places I am just hoping I don't have an emotional breakdown part two tonight...lol!
Sirius was the hardest death for me. I watched HBP on Sunday and when he said, "when this is all over we'll be a true family" I just sobbed because I knew it wasn't true.
As much as the deaths bother me, I do really appreciate that JKR was able to kill off the characters she did. This was a war, there are deaths in a war, it felt realistic. Among many, many other things the Twilight series really bothered me because I felt like it was weak to keep all of the main characters alive when there was clearly a battle going on.
This. A thousand gabillion times this!!!
Too cool to even know how cool it would have been!
This made me smile because it's a bit true. I've read all but the last Twilight and i just haven't been able to finish it. Meh.
So, in the 7th book, I cried when she killed off Hedwig, Dobby, Fred, Lupin and Tonks. There might have been a few others but those hit me the hardest.
And, like I said, I totally agree that I can see Mrs. Weasley protecting her family (including Harry and Hermione for that matter), I just felt it was out of JKR's character to write that.
And, I'm still trying to figure something out. If the resurrection stone was in Voldemort's Family and the Invisibility Cloak was in Harry's family, then, doesn't that make them related? She never talks about this (from what I have seen) and it just seems to never been discussed.
She mentions somewhere that most of the old wizarding families are related somehow. Or maybe I made that up.
True. I know James' family was a wizarding family but I guess I just always pictured them as not wizarding royalty due to Lily being a muggle.
James is a descendant of the Peverell line as was Marvolo Gaunt, so they are both related in that manner.
I don't remember reading that. Well, now I know what I'm going to be busy doing over the next two weeks.
I had forgotten about Marvolo being of the Peverell's too. I found it in the Potter-wiki, but now that I think about it that's how he had the ring in the first place.
Oh, goodness - y'all are getting me even more pumped up (and feeling an even stronger need to make a shirt - as I'm too cheap/poor to take my butt up to Hot Topic and buy their cute maroon "Muggle" shirt that I've been eye-balling...)
Leslie:
Damn that little house elf! I cried when Dobby died, too... each time I've seen 7.1 (approx 4) - and I KNOW 7.2 will be a cry-fest for me, too. Thanks for the tissue reminder
I concur that Sirius' death was the hardest - and that may be related to the fact that my friend and I share a Sirius-crush (in the book & film - Gary Oldman may be getting old, but he was grungy-hot - and can pull off a slightly younger character well).
Julie:
The lack of Tonks in general in the movies disappointed me - I adored her in the books. The deaths of Lupin and Tonks will definitely get to me (actually seeing it).
EDIT - for readability
So I have been avoiding the reviews, but finally broke down and read one and supposedly Helena Bonham Carter playing Hermione as Bellatrix is amazing.
Add that to another moment I can't wait to see. HBC is an amazing actress and absolutely anyone else as Bellatrix would have been a disapointment.
I haven't read all the post but wanted to let you all know about the series on the Biography channel about Harry Potter.
It's call "Creating the World of Harry Potter". It's like a mini-series and there are actually 5 episodes. The channel is playing all 5 in a row in order on or around the 17th. The tiles are Evolutions, The Magic Begins, Characters, Sound and Music, and there's one more that we haven't recorded yet.
I thought some of you would be interested in this.
Ok, I just read all the post and I agree with all of you about everything! Very excited to see the movie on Saturday morning. I like the idea of going to Hot Topic to get that Muggle t-shirt. I wonder if Brad would be embarrassed of me. Meh.
Michelle, that quote is perfect. Hope you don't mind but I posted it as my facebook status.
Like most of you I cried like a baby when Doby died, but it was worse for me once Harry finally realized and accepted what he had to do. To me I read as he was finally ready to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Oh, and a friend posted this link on her facebook that I thought some of the readers out there would be interested in.

I have no idea when I'm going to see the movie, I haven't even seen all the films yet! But I've read through the series twice, so I'm trying to get the other movies watched before I see the last one. A couple weeks ago I watch 1-3, and I'm excited to watch 4, it was my favorite book.
I cried both times I read about Hedwig dying. I was sad about the others (and probably cried over those, too), but to me Hedwig's death was the most shocking. She was just an innocent owl!
And, check this out:

I have more to add, lol.
I wish we could have known more about their post-Hogwarts lives. I know we got a basic idea, but still. I know Neville eventually became a professor at Hogwarts, right? I really wanted him and Luna to end up together.
I am super late to this and one of the hardest parts for me in both the book and the movie was Snapes death. Just thinking about the emotions he was holding in for years exposing them to Harry and that being Harrys realization that he would have to die. I want to tear up just thinking about it.
Thanks Renee for the info on the biography channel specials I have my dvr set.
