Where is your favorite place to get 'stuff' for your house?

Window coverings, picture frames, shelving, rugs, decor etc..

Where do you go shopping for house stuff?

(I'm going shopping this weekend for some house stuff including paint but also looking for a couple window coverings and anything else that strikes my fancy!)

I really like HomeGoods but have only been there once. Otherwise, I check out Target.

I'm into thrifty shopping--I want to be able to get a good quantity for my money! Smile

Re: Where is your favorite place to get 'stuff' for your house?

  • Pier 1, Home Goods, West Elm (not cheap), Chiasso.com (online only)
  • Crate and Barrel is one of my favorites. Probably not the thriftiest option (though their prices aren't too unreasonable).
  • I don't really have a favorite but just pick stuff up that I like when I'm out. I tend to avoid chain stores and like finding new places on this website: http://www.alishops.com/twincitiesstoresandshops.asp?sort=Home%20Accessories .  Retro Pete's and Succotash in St. Paul are cool if you like vintage or mid-century stuff.

Window coverings - some Pottery Barn and the rest I sewed myself.

Picture frames - Ikea, Michaels and Goodwill.  Most of the pictures we have hanging are ones I took on vacations and some that I got from the Mpls College of Art & Design student art show/sale.  I have a couple that I got from Etsy and a little gallery in Duluth.

Shelves - bookshelves in our offices that are family heirlooms.

    Rugs - Flor carpet tiles

Other decor.... I'm not really a clutter person so that stuff is limited.  Most of the stuff has meaning vs. things we have just to have stuff.  For example, we have things we picked up on our travel, wood bowls and other trinkets that DH's dad makes and clay pottery from my mom.  I love picking up fresh flowers from the farmer's market during the summer and putting them around the house.

  • Dock 86 (35E and 694) is a furniture liquidation store, but they have a lot of smaller things, too.  Target, Home Goods, and Kohls.  Pier I sometimes has stuff I like, but they can be a little pricier and seem to be closing a lot of locations.
  • Not sure where in the cities you are but I checked out Gordmans yesterday (one in Woodbury, one in Burnsville) and they had some really cute stuff (lamps, frames, etc..) for reasonable prices

  • Definitely Ikea also!! I am a Target girl, too, so I will often check that out.

I also am a bit of an antique/vintage fiend, as is my H (Thanks, God!), so a lot of our favorite pieces were either passed down to us from his grandpa, his parents, or found at antique stores. We've got an awesome 50's diner style kitchen set and a tiled coffee table that are probably our most favorite pieces of furniture, and both were antique store finds. The kitchen set I found at a place in Burnsville, but I am not sure its there anymore...it was a small corner store. The coffee table we got in Ohio.
